Chapter 3 - Arriving at The Peninsula Chicago Hotel

The day was hot. One couldn't feel the wind, just the intense heat from the sun. People carried umbrellas, but this time around, not for protecting themselves from the rain but from the sun. That was how hot that day was.

That day when Ava Burton arrived at the great Peninsula Chicago Hotel. She hadn't wanted to travel to America that day, she had just wanted to spend one more day at Bradford, but as it was, circumstances didn't permit.

However, she didn't regret. Having the privilege to finally get to see the Peninsula Chicago Hotel was of course not a regret, but the heat was. It sort of ruined her day and put a smile on her beautiful face.

Detective Ava Burton walked into the hotel with her travel bag in one hand and a suitcase in the other. Oh God...why hadn't she come with an umbrella? It was simply because weather conditions differ from place to place: she didn't know the sun would be that angry.

Immediately she stepped her feet into the hotel, all thoughts of the scorching sun that was once beating on her tender skin seemed to vanish. The beauty of the hotel was captivating. The air conditioners had blown away the thoughts of the sun from her mind. She was speechless.

The place was massive. She had never seen a place as big and beautiful as the Peninsula Chicago. But now she had, and she could talk about it, too, when others did.

She snapped out of her trance and quickly walked towards the receptionist's table to check herself in. "Good morning," came her greeting. The receptionist was a tall and slender man. He looked up at her and immediately, his lips broke into a warm smile.

"I suppose this is your first time visiting the Peninsula Chicago, Ma'am," he said in a deep masculine voice. Ava nodded at his statement. "You are right. This is my first visit here. Doesn't it sound ridiculous - being the first time I'm visiting the great Peninsula Chicago Hotel which everyone talks about?" She decided to ask. It was a honest question: she wanted to know this man's opinion.

" Not at all. We all have important places to be at certain points in time, so I suppose you're here for a reason,"he said. Ava was satisfied with this answer so she smiled." Yes. I'm actually here for a friend's wedding ceremony, "she paused for a while." I'm Ava Burton by the way, "" Ricardo Smith, "and they shook hands.

After going through the check-in processes, Ricardo Smith handed Ava her room key."Room 119"he said and she gratefully took the key from him. When she got to the room tagged 'Room 119', she stopped. She put the key in the lock and turned it. Immediately the door opened wide enough for her to see the beauty of the room, she entered into another trance.

She was dazed and speechless. There was a large king-sized bed in the middle and a well furnished wardrobe by the side. Ava snapped out of her trance and walked into the room, after which she closed the door behind her.

It was then she realized how tired she was. She drove to the airport at around 6 in the morning. She checked her wrist watch: it was 12pm in the afternoon.

"Such a hectic day!" she exclaimed as she tiredly flung her suitcase on the bed. She walked forward and slumped on the bed. She was extremely exhausted. The scorching sun had zapped all her energy. Now all that was in her head was 'sleep'. And that was exactly what she did:she slept.
