"Alright I have a plan" Iris said,.....
They got to the gates and one of the guards put his hand on the hilt of his sword but didn't draw it out… yet. "Stop and get down" the guard said, but Iris already took out the dagger from his ring.
"We are adventurers " levi said to the guards in a solemn tone "we were part of the people that came from Dawnville, and we have nothing left we just want to leave"
While Levi stalled Iris looked up at the tower and saw the two guards, both facing the opposite direction.
"Listen we don't have anything to live for here so please let us go" levi said
"Get down, I don't want to repeat myself," the guard said. Iris looked around and saw the three guards behind the one in front of them, two were very close to the gates and one was directly behind the one speaking to them. Iris let the dagger fly again and it struck one of the guards close to the gate in his knee, unfortunately this got the other guards' attention.
They turned to face the guard who shouted, with eyes wide they drew their swords. The one I front turned around to strike but Levi quickly deflected his sword and smacked him in the head with the flat part of the sword, sending the soldier to the ground discombobulated.
Iris got down and ran towards the next one and as they clashed the dagger flew into his thigh from behind, he held his thigh and screamed, Iris controlled the dagger to impaled his other thigh. He moved forward and struck the guard on the head knocking him out. The other two guards ran at Levi but he handled them fairly well from the top of the horse, then Iris turned around and stabbed one in the shouoder then kicked the other in the back of the knee and stabbed him through the shoulder.
Levi got down and both he and Iris raised the plank off the gates and pulled the gates open. Then they got on their horses and rodeout at great speeds.
They moved until they were out of the borders of Curtis. They got to a forest, and came upon a stream. They got down a Nd led their horses to drink.
The trio decided to rest, still shocked about the events that took place today. Kara, still grappling with the weight of her recent losses, hesitantly initiates a conversation. "What do we do now?" She asked, her voice tinged with pain and vulnerability "where do we go?"
Iris and Levi shared a glance, understanding the weight of their choices. Iris took a moment to collect his thoughts before responding. "We should head to Daria, it's one of the kingdoms that king Steven hasn't conquered yet. There we can find safety….. temporarily."
Levi looked at Iris meaningfully, "you still plan on leaving the continent ?"
"Yes, I do," Iris responded.
"Wait, .. wait what are you talking about?" Kara asked surprised "leaving the continent? " She said in a high pitched tone, "keep your voice down Princess "Levi said. Levi got up and sat closer to Kara. He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, his voice steady and resolute. "We have sworn to protect you Princess"
"Eh ehm " Iris cleared his throat "sworn is a strong word."
"There should be caravans leaving Daria for the next continent, it explains why they're so prosperous, they trade with other cities outside the seven kingdoms" levi said
"Listen Princess " Iris said "the most we can do if you're not coming with us, is to give you some money and help you settle down in Daria from then on you're on your own"
Kara's apprehension lingered, but she understood the necessity of their plan "I… I don't have a choice, do I? "
"I thought you wanted to fight to live Kara " Iris asked,
"I …. "
Levi stepped forward his gaze full of sympathy "you don't have much of a choice Kara but I promise you we will be there to protect you… as long as you come with us."
Kara sighed "I understand "
It was past noon and it was evening.
As they continued their discussion, the sound of approaching hoofbeats interrupted their conversation. The trio quickly readied themselves prepared to flee at a moment's notice. They concealed themselves in the shadows ready to face whatever danger awaited them.
The horses drew closer and they saw it was a patrol of king festus' army. They exchanged glances and agreed it was time to leave. With hearts pounding they slipped away from their hiding place, melting into the darkness and disappeared into the forest. grappling with the weight of her recent losses, hesitantly initiates a conversation.
