Chapter 1 - CHAPTER ONE

… KILL HER,

I was not sure if any other person could hear my heart beating loudly as I could hear it so well.

My head was hurting me so bad as if someone hit it with a club.

I guess this is what it means when they say one is helpless. My life will end like this?

I had no time to doubt whether this was happening in real life as my uncle's lifeless body covered in a pool of his blood sunk me back to reality. I could feel my hand shaking out of control, but the more I tried to stop it, other parts of my body followed suit. To the extent that I began to stagger.

I looked at my uncle's corpse once more and attempted to steady my breathing but choked on it as I saw one of the guards coming fast holding a very long spear with a very sharp edge which was pointed.

I knew I had always hated my uncle. I hated everything ever since my younger sister died.

My dad and mum had never really been the centre of my affection as my dad was fascinated with my blood and his obsession with his various experiments. My mum has always felt doomed after giving birth to a curse like me.

Well, I never really felt anything, staring at their corpses did not move me at all.

I wasn't the cause of their death, they should blame it on my dad's stupid experiments to become immortal with my blood.

Whereas my uncle is just a crafty man with dreams, which has led him to his death. I never expected him to die so soon .

I should have known he was up to no good. I could feel my eyes tear up when it dawned on me that one strike by this spear would kill me.

I wouldn't say it was coincidentally that my feet moved on their own, rather I'll call it survival instincts.

*****

I ran so fast that I could barely make something of my surroundings, the guards chasing after me spared me no moment to recollect myself.

But with the numerous amount of tress and the rocky floor with the sound made from the leaves in unison. I knew that I was in some kind of forest,

How big is the palace to have this kind of forest in it?

It is a miracle that I was able to escape from that place as one moment of hesitation would have got me killed.

I looked at my right arm which was cut open by the sword of whom I guess is one of the tyrants who rule the kingdom.

His aim is so fearful, how could he get me from that distance?

That wasn't the problem now?

The issue is that I will be caught in no time if I can't stop this blood about to drip from my arm that was injured.

I held my arm tightly with my other hand while running, knowing the full consequences if my blood should drop.

I turned back to check on my attackers and just in time, saw a spear flying straight in my direction

I immediately docked to avoid it but slipped and fell, rolling down while hitting different stones and obstacles on the way.

I tried to stop myself from rolling down any further, but it was out of my control and more attempts to stop were in vain.

Finally, I was stopped by a tree which I crashed on , almost knocking the life out of me.

I lay there, trying to recollect myself, until I remembered I was being chased, and my life was at stake.

I hurriedly attempted to stand up, but I guess I overestimated myself and my body, as I couldn't feel my legs again and cringed from the splitting headache I was suffering from.

I made another attempt, this time summoning all the strength inside me as the pain I could feel all over my body intensified, I moaned out in pain but continued.

It was successful, I was up, but strangely I could see none of my earlier attackers searching for me.

Is this a trap?

Or Have they given up?

That can't be, I'm sure they won't stop until I'm dead. I turned to look at my injured arm once more. It needed to be tended to immediately.

So I bent over and rested my back against a tree where, I felt, it was well hidden enough and had enough exposure so that I wouldn't be ambushed.

I drew back my hand covering my arm and could feel the sting when I shifted it towards me.

This would not have been a problem if I were myself, but my mischievous uncle had forced me to drink a concoction which had made me weaker and consequently affected my regenerative ability.

I tore apart my dress and covered the place which was cut. It can't be seen. My blood, which has been golden colour since birth can't be seen by anyone if I want to survive .

Said to be the blood of the gods with several powers in it.

I should have hated it as it has brought me nothing but misfortune since I was young, but it's a part of me, I can't deny, and I was never really exposed to affection, so I don't know how to feel the loss of one.

Standing up was much easier as my mind was not settled

I could be exposed to life-threatening scenarios at any moment, so I needed to escape fast.

-------------------------------------

IN THE HEART OF THE PALACE ...

My Lords, I… have failed to ca…p…pture the girl .

The leader of the guards stuttered while kneeling on one knee, one of his hands placed on his chest while bending his head fearing meeting eyes with any of them.

The four tyrants rule the kingdom of Ulises in a hierarchical order, each of them overseeing one of the four cities directly.

The capital, which is where the supreme palace is located, is ruled by the supreme Lord Vincenzo; The first tyrant.

The other districts are ruled by the other Lords; Luca, Akuji and Shenzi

Each of them with their story and personality.

But the worst of them all is Lord Luca, rumoured to be crazy for blood which he drinks excessively.

Several exaggerated rumours around him which sometimes have been proven to be true while sometimes false have made his name or presence in any gathering dampen the mood instantly.

He rules his district with power and wisdom, but his people have to follow his rules which means disobedience will lead to death. He is closed off and not seen by the public in most cases. He is rumoured to be mentally sick and has numerous psychological problems. His clinical vampirism stopped all of them.

Akuji upon hearing what the leader had said, picked up his sword in anger.

Upon seeing this, the leader quickly bent over and shouted what he knew could save his life for a moment.

LORD LUCA…

She entered L…l.ord Luca territory,

So we couldn't chase her any more,

He said while breathing heavily, praying with all his heart that they wouldn't see through his lie.

It was true that she rolled down the path that led to where Lord Luca was, but she hadn't entered.

Whether she enters or not is up to her fate.

Out of fear, he had returned back to avoid encountering Lord Luca which would lead to his death.

So he hoped that she would meet Lord Luca and be killed to save his neck.

--------------

I walked forward slowly trying to be careful because I was unaware of my surroundings, which made me nervous.

I noticed that where I was at the present was quite different from the place I was chased.

This place was smooth ,calm and serene, a good place for resting without disturbance.

But my mind was not at rest as I was still in an unknown place.

I continued moving forward until I was stopped by the sight of a figure. It was a male with long black hair that rested on his shoulders. Dressed in a silk robe. He had a calm demeanour from where I saw him.

I wondered what he would be doing there.

Probably just one nobody who sneaked in here to rest.

Good, I said, the corner of my lips curving into a smile .

He can be of good use to me.
