Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Maybe, It's Just a Dream?

Wonderer's eyes fluttered open, the remnants of the mysterious vision still fresh in his mind. He sat up in bed, his heart pounding with a mix of excitement and trepidation. Was it all just a dream? Or had he truly witnessed something extraordinary?

Glancing at the wall clock, Wonderer's eyes widened in alarm. It was already 11 AM, and he was running late for school. He quickly threw off the covers and jumped out of bed, his mind racing to catch up with the reality around him.

As he hurriedly got dressed, the events of the previous night flooded back into his memory. The encounter with Jasmine, the strange glitch by the lake, and the sense of a hidden secret lingering just out of reach. It was all so surreal, like a story ripped from the pages of a fantasy novel.

Wonderer's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more to that world, that is something waiting to be discovered. But for now, he had to focus on the present, on getting to school on time.

With his backpack slung over his shoulder, Wonderer dashed out of his apartment and made his way to the school, It was 11:45 when Wonderer arrived at the school's front gate, his heart pounding with the realization that he had forgotten to bring his ID. As he approached, the school guard, a stern-looking man with a graying beard, stood in his way.

"Sorry, young man, but I can't let you in without your ID," the guard said firmly, crossing his arms.

Wonderer's face turned pale as he fumbled through his pockets, desperately searching for his identification. He felt a sinking feeling in his chest as he realized it wasn't there. Panic started to set in, and he racked his brain for a solution.

"Please, sir, I promise I'm a student here," Wonderer pleaded, his voice trembling. "I just forgot my ID today. Is there any way I can still go inside?"

The guard regarded him skeptically, clearly unswayed by his words. "I'm sorry, but without proper identification, I can't grant you access. It's for the safety and security of everyone inside."

Wonderer's mind raced, trying to come up with a plan but ended up realizing he had exhausted all his options. He had tried everything to convince the guard to let him into the school without his ID, but to no avail. Just as he was about to give in to despair, a stroke of luck seemed to fall from the sky. Wonderer noticed his ID card fluttering down, unnoticed by the passersby. He quickly snatched it up, relief washing over him.

But as Wonderer glanced up, he caught sight of something peculiar—a floating orb, resembling an eye, hovering in the air. Before he could fully process what he was seeing, the orb swiftly darted away, as if inviting him to follow. Intrigued, Wonderer felt a strong urge to chase after it, to uncover its secrets. However, he knew he couldn't afford to be late for school.

With his ID card in hand, Wonderer approached the school gate once again, showing it to the guard. Surprisingly, the guard's gaze lingered on him, suspicion etched on his face. Wonderer couldn't help but feel a shiver crawl up his spine, as if he was being scrutinized for something he couldn't quite comprehend.

Determined to put the mysterious orb aside for now, Wonderer pushed the unsettling encounter with the guard to the back of his mind. He hurriedly made his way to his class room wonderer, wonderer climbed the second floor, his heart racing with anxiety. Each step felt heavy, burdened by the weight of his worry. Glancing at his watch, he saw the time: 12:30. Panic consumed him as he hurriedly made his way to his classroom on the third floor, frantically thinking of an excuse in case he was questioned by his current subject teacher.

The hallways seemed to stretch endlessly, the fluorescent lights above casting a harsh glow on the linoleum floors. The distant sound of laughter and chatter echoed through the empty corridors, a cruel reminder of the time Wonderer had lost in his frantic rush.

His footsteps echoed loudly as he ascended the stairs, the sound magnified by the silence that enveloped the school. Each step felt like a countdown to his impending doom. The weight of anticipation bore down on him, intensifying the tightness in his chest.

Finally, he reached the classroom door, his hand trembling as he reached for the doorknob. The room was empty, devoid of any students or the sound of a teacher's voice. Wonderer's eyes widened in disbelief, his mind struggling to process the scene before him. How could this be? Had he entered some sort of alternate reality?

In that moment, realization dawned upon Wonderer like a sudden burst of sunlight. It was Saturday. He had rushed through the school, worrying for nothing. Embarrassment flooded his cheeks, turning them a shade of crimson as he turned around, only to find the guard struggling to contain his laughter.

The guard, unable to hold it in any longer, burst into silent laughter, his face reddening with the effort. He placed a hand on Wonderer's shoulder, guiding him towards the exit gate. Mixed emotions swirled within Wonderer, a tumultuous combination of humiliation and amusement. It was a humorous and ridiculous situation, one that he would later laugh off as he made his way back home.

As they walked towards the exit, Wonderer couldn't help but steal glances at the guard, whose joviality seemed to bring life to the sterile halls of the school. A sense of camaraderie formed between them, an unspoken understanding that sometimes, even the most ordinary of individuals could find themselves caught in the whirlwind of their own worries.

The sun beamed down on them as they stepped outside, the warmth a stark contrast to the icy grip of anxiety that had gripped Wonderer just moments ago. The guard, still chuckling, patted Wonderer on the back, his laughter contagious. It was in that moment that Wonderer realized the importance of laughter, the power it held to transform the heaviest of burdens into moments of lightheartedness.

Walking home, Wonderer couldn't help but laugh at his own foolishness. The world around him seemed brighter, the colors more vibrant. The weight that had burdened him earlier lifted, replaced by a newfound sense of levity.

As he made his way back to his apartment, Wonderer replayed the events of the day in his mind, savoring the absurdity of it all. He knew that this would be a story he would recount to his friends, an anecdote that would bring laughter and joy to those who listened.

And so, Wonderer embraced the unexpected twist of fate, cherishing the lesson it had taught him. Sometimes, in the midst of chaos and worry, the universe had a way of reminding us to find humor in our own follies, to laugh at ourselves, and to appreciate the moments of levity that punctuated our lives.

With a wide grin plastered on his face and a bounce in his step, Wonderer swung open the door to his apartment, ready to dive headfirst into whatever wild and wacky adventures awaited him. Life was like a treasure hunt, full of surprises just waiting to be unwrapped, and he was determined to savor every single one. But first things first, the rumbling in his stomach reminded him that even a brave explorer needed fuel. Time to change out of his adventurous attire and into something a bit more comfy, before diving into a delicious lunch. Ah, the mysteries of the world could wait just a little longer, as he chuckled to himself and continued on his quest to solve the riddles that lay ahead.
