Chapter 90 - Chapter 83 - Hidden Truth

Damion's POV

With a heavy heart and a mind filled with conflicting emotions, I knew that I had to tread carefully it seems someone, has infiltrated the Palace, managed to poison father and take Rahua. That woman is very prone to attract such events to herself. I can only sight at the thought.

As we began to piece together the events of this fateful day, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Rahua's sudden departure than met the eye. I had to consider the possibility that she may have been manipulated or coerced into actions that were against her true nature and will.

"Your Majesty, if I may." Cirius finally spoke after a while in silence. " I might dare to say that these two events, of your father's poisoning and Lady Rahua's disapearence are not connected. Meaning they are not the same culprits."

"So you are to tell me that my knights, my guards are so useless that, two conspiracy events happened, under our noses and we were that clueless to notice?"

"There's something I must tell you, for now is necessary for your Majesty not to act."

*

"Your Majesty, king of Mirantella has arrived." Out of nowhere the King of Mirantella, arrived stating that he had serious matters to deal with me, leaving the fact that he didn't attend my coronation, which is not normal, but he showed up as soon the situation turned sour.

The fact that the engagement didn't work between me and his daughter I was expecting not see him so soon.

I greeted the King of Mirantella with a nod, trying to hide my surprise at his sudden appearance. "What brings you here, Your Majesty?" I asked, trying to keep my emotions in check.

He looked at me with a grave expression. "I have received word of the events that have transpired in your kingdom, and I come to offer my condolences, and words of support."

I was taken aback by his words, wondering how he could possibly know about what had happened? But I swallowed my curiosity. "I thank you for that your Majesty, however why are you offering me your condolences?" No one outside the Palace knew what happened, at to all effects father is still alive.

"It seems that there may be a group within your kingdom that is working to destabilize the peace and harmony that has reigned for so long. News reach us on the road that the king had fallen victim, of a treacherous act. And that your chosen bride has disappeared."

I felt a chill run down my spine at his words, realizing that the leaks and conspirators, run deep and they have free pass roaming in and out of the Palace. But I had to remain composed, for the sake of my kingdom and my people.

"Thank you for kind words, Your Majesty. We will investigate this matter thoroughly and root out any traitors within our midst. Arrentela will not fall prey to such nefarious schemes."

The King of Mirantella nodded in approval, a glimmer of respect in his eyes. "I have faith in your abilities, King Damion. I must warn you, I know that your kingdom has still mages roaming around free, you may not know, but they are not to be trusted. The history told us, they will enchant you, scheme against you, trick you into follow their own will."

"Thank you, I will take those words in consideration when dealing with them. Please accept my hospitality. My royal butler will take you into guest chambers, for you and your family."

As he left the room, I couldn't stop thinking what Cirius told me before.

"There's something I must tell Your Majesty, for now is necessary for your Majesty not to act. This Kingdom has a dark secret, and has buried deep with its history under this very Palace. "

"What do you mean?" Ceaser asks but his expression remains cold.

Cirius paused for a moment before speaking, his voice low and cautious. "This Kingdom was once a strong, it's beginning was prosperous. Deceiving opportunist have taken control of the Royal family passing as advisors, fabricated stories and situation, to create fear against Mages and chaos amongst the people.

Weakening the kingdom down to its core.

Those powers that have been hidden for decades, waiting for the right moment to emerge again. I fear that the recent events may be connected to this ancient darkness, and that we must proceed with caution in order to not repeat the same mistakes from the past."

"Why didn't we know about this side of the story?" Ceaser commented.

"It was hidden, perhaps even destroyed, most of it at least, there's some that is still remaining, however it seems that someone is trying to destroy it for good. " Cirius looked at me with a steely gaze.

"How does this, helps me find Rahua and save my father?" I say, frustrated that every conspiracy seem to have no end.

" Only by understanding the past can we hope to prevent it from repeating in the present. And like that you can protect this kingdom and it's people." He says sighting.

I nodded in agreement, "I will do whatever it takes to protect my kingdom, my Father and Rahua. Do you have any idea who could be behind this?"

"It's easy to point fingers, your Majesty, but is important to point them in the right direction. I am sure whoever is behind this will take its opportunity to strike while chaos is still rampant."

"Damion." Ceaser stepped forward. " You know, you can count on me for everything and perhaps this time it pays off if your enemies still see you as the clueless King. So they reveal themselves without caution."

The king Mirantella appeance isn't just coincidence, I doubt that he doesn't have allies. Ceaser is right, I must play the fool and clueless for now. If they think they can just manipulate me easily they will not proceed with caution and they will reveal their own treachery in time.

"Damion, your Majesty. It's time, Lady Rahua needs us."Cirius said is voice laced with urgency and my heart almost jumped out my chest.
