"Jack, why was she so vexed?" Eleanor asked, her gaze darting between Jack and Mary.
"Oh, noble lass, ye be awake!" Jack said with his usual roguish grin.
"She be fumin' 'cause Jack's plannin' to snatch some treasure the islanders know naught about," Mary explained, her tone gruff yet matter-of-fact. "Can't say I blame her for bein' angry, but if she wants to join our crew, she'd best get used to it. We be pirates, after all."
"Wait, what? Join the crew? That lady?" Eleanor asked, her eyes blinking in surprise.
"Aye, I promised her she'd be part of the crew," Jack confirmed, nodding.
Eleanor's thoughts swirled. 'What about me?' she wondered. "So, what sort of treasure ye be after?" she asked, her excitement making her fidget as she sought to prove her worth.
"Don't rightly know what it holds," Jack admitted. "Usually, I can sense its value right off, but this one just shines. Might be worth a king's ransom."
