Captain Jack woke up on a lighter note to hear the whispers that came from the floor below him.
He blinked, his eyes becoming more adapted to the dim light which had seeped into his hiding spot, hitting at just the correct angle.
With attentive caution, he shifted his body, mindful of the creaking wood beneath him, and looked down at the floor.
Below, he spotted Mary and Eleanor standing near seated village elders.
The two ladies had clearly made the first contact with the group their tone cheerful but forced, which triggered the warning bells in both Jack's and the elder's minds.
"Ye've got ta get me outta there, lasses," Jack muttered under his breath.
He could see them weaving a web of blatant lies, trying their best to coax the elders outside. But the stubborn elderly were still adamant.
