Emily has a nightmare about the traumatic event that happened to her as a child. This causes her to wake up screaming, and her sister comes in to comfort her. As Emily starts to calm down, her sister notices that she seems very upset and asks her what's wrong. She didn't say anything as she went back to bed murmuring prayers.
"I really hope she's fine". Emily heard her sister say who didn't stop staring at her and feeling pity for her
Later at school, Emily friends are gathered around a table, laughing and joking with each other. But when Emily walks into the cafeteria, the laughter dies down and the friends look at her with cold, judgmental eyes. One of them starts gossiping about Emily, saying things like "She's not like us. She doesn't belong here."
Emily can't take it anymore. The hurtful words cut deep, and she runs out of the cafeteria, tears streaming down her face. A classmate of hers who likes her sees this and runs after her.
"Emily, I saw what happened in the cafeteria. I'm so sorry that your friends are being so mean to you. It's not right." Esther said wiping her tears
"It's okay. I'm just feeling really overwhelmed right now. I don't know what to do." She said sniffing
"You don't have to deal with this alone. You have me, and I'm here for you. Let's figure this out together. Do you want to talk about what happened in the cafeteria?"
Emily hesitated, but eventually decided to confide in Esther. She told her about the hurtful comments her friends had made, and how it had made her feel. Esther listened intently, offering words of support and understanding. As Emily spoke, she felt a weight lifting from her shoulders. She felt like she could finally breathe again.
After a moment of silence, Esther said, "Emily, you're an amazing person, no matter what your friends say. You're strong and brave, and you deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. Don't let anyone make you feel like you're less than you are." Emily's eyes welled up with tears. She felt like a huge burden had been lifted from her, and she knew that she had a true friend in Esther. "Thank you," she said, wiping away her tears. "I really needed to hear that."
Here's how the revised passage would read:
As Esther spoke, her words were like a soothing balm to Emily's bruised and battered heart. She felt a weight lift from her shoulders, and a new sense of hope blossomed within her. Esther's words were like a ray of light in the darkness of her despair. In that moment, Emily knew that she was not alone. She had a friend who understood her, and who would stand by her no matter what. This newfound bond was a precious gift, and one that Emily would cherish for the rest of her life.
After her interaction with Esther, Emily felt a glimmer of hope in her heart. But as the days passed, she began to feel that hope fading. The other girls continued to ignore her, and she felt more and more isolated. It was as if a wall had been built between her and the rest of the world. She began to feel like she was trapped, with no way out. She spent her days in a daze, lost in a world of darkness and despair.
As the days went by, Emily's classmates became more and more distant. But Esther remained by her side, offering her a steady source of support. One day, as they sat together at lunch, the other girls began to whisper and giggle, pointing and staring at Emily. She turned to Esther, her eyes filled with hurt and confusion.
"What's going on?" she asked. "Why are they all looking at me like that?"
"I'm not sure," Esther replied, her brow furrowed with concern. "But you shouldn't let them get to you. You're a strong and amazing person, and they're just trying to bring you down. Don't let them." But even as she spoke, she could see the pain in Emily's eyes. She knew that it was easier said than done. And as the days went by, the whispers and stares only got worse.
One day, after school, as Emily was walking home, she heard footsteps behind her. She turned to see a group of her classmates, all whispering and giggling. She tried to ignore them, but she could feel their stares burning into her back. Suddenly, she heard a voice call out, "Hey, ugly! Why don't you just go away and leave us alone?"
The words stung like a slap in the face. She turned to face the girls, trying to hide the tears that were welling up in her eyes.
"Just leave me alone," she said, her voice shaking. "I haven't done anything to you. Just leave me alone."
But the girls only laughed, their eyes glittering with malice. "You're a loser," one of them said. "No one wants you here. You're not one of us."
Emily felt like her heart was breaking. "Just leave me alone," she repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. But the girls didn't listen. They just kept taunting her, laughing and sneering.
Emily got home late and she met her mother waiting for her outside the house
"Where were you?!" Emily's mother shouted as she stormed into the kitchen. "You're hours late! You know you're not allowed to go out without telling us where you're going!"
"I was just hanging out with friends," Emily said, her voice shaking. "I'm sorry I didn't call. I didn't think it was a big deal."
"Don't lie to me!" Emily's mother snapped. "We've been worried sick! You could have been kidnapped or hurt or -"
"I'm not lying!" Emily protested.
"Enough!" Emily's mother yelled, cutting her off. "I've had it with your attitude! You're grounded for the rest of the week. Go to your room!"
Emily's heart sank. She knew it was no use arguing. She turned and walked up the stairs to her room, feeling the weight of her mother's words pressing down on her. She closed the door and sank down on her bed, her eyes filling with tears. She felt like there was no one she could turn to.
EMILY'S P.O.V
Emily is lying in bed, staring up at the ceiling. She feels like she's trapped in a nightmare that she can't escape. She can hear her mother's words echoing in her head, and she feels like she's been punched in the gut. She tries to push the thoughts away, but they just keep coming back, like a broken record that won't stop playing.
"Why does everyone hate me so much" She cried
"Maybe I should just commit suicide since that's the best option for me" She concluded
