Chapter 41 - Big Mistakes (Pt. 6)

Kai looked back at the house that was now pitch black, picking up his phone to make a call. She didn't answer; it was what he expected. He left her a voicemail, saying he wanted to tell her 'goodnight.' but he was not giving up. Kai stood up, started to pace, and walked near the gate, waiting. He was willing to wait as long as needed; his phone rang, and he just let it go to voicemail. They weren't as important.

After the second hour came and went like the first, Kai checked his phone. Nearly 30 calls, and none were from Jennie. He sighed; the texts were the same, but none from Jennie. He opened the phone to make one more call, his phone flashing before he could attempt it. He noticed that this call was different than all the others. Kai had noticed that the calls were all coming from his mother and Krystal. The texts were the same, explaining that he needed to come home. Some even asked where he was, but he was not willing to reply. This time, the call was from his father, and he needed to answer.

"Where are you?" His father asked when the phone picked up. "Get home now." He didn't even get the opportunity to respond.

The phone call ended with his father yelling at whoever was near him. Kai looked back towards the house again, hoping there would be a chance to make things better. He sighed loudly, turning and walking away. He put his hands in his pockets, starting his walk back home. He prepared himself for the harsh words and let those things bounce from his mind. She was more important. As the house got closer, Kai felt a sense of alert. The car that had been parked out front was gone, and all the music and sound from his parents' home was gone.

Something told him not to walk inside, but there was no immediate reason he shouldn't. At least for now, it seemed like there wasn't a party anymore. This meant that everyone was probably gone. He could save himself the embarrassment at least, thinking about all the times Krystal laid witness. Kai opened the gate, walking towards the home. He tried listening, but by the time he reached the door, it was open. His mother stood there, and her face was hard to read. It looked like she was on the brink of tears but also angry.

"Your father would like to speak to you in the study." She said softly, moving aside so he could enter the room.

He walked in, and she didn't want to look at him much. His eyes moved to the office doors that were next to the stairs. He slowly made his way to them, hearing his mother's slow steps from behind. He opened the door, seeing his father bent over the desk. The sound of the door grabbed his father's attention, and he turned his head to meet Kai. He chuckled, picking up the glass next to him and throwing back the shot. He made another drink before motioning Kai to come forward.

"You like embarrassing me, don't you?" He slurred, sitting on the top of the desk corner.

"I don't know what you mean?" Kai replied, his father slamming the glass on the table.

"I mean," He started, his voice raised until Kai's mom moved closer. "You know what I mean. You blatantly disregard my instructions, running out while investors are here and chasing after some other girl!" He moved forward, nearly stumbling.

"Jun, be careful. It's fine." His mother approached, her arms outstretched to catch Jun.

"Shut up!" His hand flung across her face, sending her falling to the ground. Kai jumped up, looking at his father's drunken stance. "What? You didn't think we would find out." He yelled into his face. Kai looked down at his mother, who was holding her cheek.

"I don't care." He whispered, his voice not carrying much.

"What?" His father repeated, pushing him.

"I don't care!" Kai yelled. In a split moment, he regretted his decision. He had made a series of decisions and was beginning to regret all of them. He regretted his decision to walk into this room, the home, but the decision he regretted most of all was leaving the school.

Kai felt something hard hit him in the face, his neck turning viciously to one side. He felt the drops of blood ooze from his nose, his body falling. Kai could only see his mother sitting on the floor next to him before he couldn't see anything at all. His vision was cloudy, but now he felt the pain of everything else. He heard the grunts from him and his father as the pain intensified. He soon felt sharp pains followed by screams of horror from his mother. There was no way for him to see.

Kai was sure that his eyes were open. He knew he was looking at the floor, but nothing was in front of him. Everything stopped, and the noise around him began to fade. He tried to speak, his hand going to his neck. He tried to force a sound, feeling wet fluid leak between his fingers. He gasped, his body trying to crawl away before there was nothing. His body went cold; he needed a blanket. Kai let his body roll over on the floor, his back against the rug. Kai's mind had one thought before it stopped. He thought about his biggest mistake, leaving the school to come here instead of waiting for Jennie.
