Our impromptu meeting was set to come to a peaceful conclusion after an hour of back-and-forth discussion between myself and the Archmage Felicia and Holy Sky Council. At first, the entire room wanted vengeance. A few even floated the idea of 'an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.'
It took me by surprise when I realized that the elves were the ones pushing the idea of the phrase. The elves I knew from a time long gone hated it. It was seen as barbaric, unjust, and unnecessarily cruel.
Most of all, it was seen as a barbaric human idea. An idea happily welcomed and adopted by the dwarves. The speed in which the dwarves adopted the phrase into their culture shocked those around them.
Many wars were fought over simple grudges ever since. I had to put down several dwarven kingdoms because of it.
All the other races were indifferent to it at the time.
