The souls had eyes. The souls could see. And the souls saw. More than a thousand hollow eyes stopped in their movement for the briefest of moments. Their wails ceased. The voices went mute. Their mouths shut. But jusr as quickly, they shifted as one, and stared.
They stared directly at Yaluk. Their mouths went wide at the sight of the Void mage. The shadow they cast over the crater thickened and grew, becoming as dark as a starless night.
My frown deepened at the this startling development. My own eyes went over to gaze at Yaluk. The void mage was absolutely horrified. Sheer terror was plastered over his face.
I found myself reflexively enveloping the mage in my most powerful protection spell, capable of defending him against enough force that could vaporize a mountain. It was probably overkill but I was not taking any chances here.
