The magical explosion, which was caused by making my magic collapse into itself and implode, had done more than just blast a crater.
It had lit up this region of the continent with enough magic to blind even the faintest and weakest of magical senses. Mages far and wide, I reckoned, had been dealt a severe headache and may actually have been magically blinded by the sudden explosion of pure yet volatile magic.
Still, it was the best move I could muster. Not only did it eliminate the majority of the undead in the surrounding area, but it also caused the abomination to rethink its strategy.
It had used most of its vile power and body mass to shield the artifact from the explosion. What was left was a smoldering pile of simmering flesh surrounding the magical artifact in the middle.
