Sico gave him a firm nod before heading back toward the center of Sanctuary, his mind already planning their next steps. The Sentinel wasn't ready yet, but they were getting closer. And when it finally rolled out, it would be a force to be reckoned with.

A few hours later, the sun was higher in the sky, casting a warm glow over the testing field. After handling some other matters at Sanctuary, Sico returned to check on the Sentinel's progress. The distant sounds of clanging metal and the occasional hiss of welding greeted him as he approached, and he could see Mel and his team hard at work around the prototype tank, their forms hunched over various parts of the machine. The thick black smoke that had previously billowed from the engine compartment had cleared, replaced now by the scent of grease and burning solder.

Sico's boots crunched over the dirt as he made his way back to the raised platform where he had stood earlier that morning. His sharp eyes scanned the scene, taking in the various engineers moving between workstations, tools in hand, and focusing intently on the task at hand. The rear of the Sentinel was open, with panels removed to expose its inner workings. Wires, hoses, and various mechanical components lay strewn about as the team focused on repairing the malfunctioning coolant pump.

Sico spotted Mel crouched near the exposed engine, covered in grease up to his elbows as he worked on some delicate-looking machinery. The engineer's brow was furrowed in concentration, and he didn't seem to notice Sico approaching until the general cleared his throat. Mel immediately looked up, his usual grin flashing despite the grime streaking his face.

"Ah, General! You're back. Perfect timing," Mel said, wiping his hands on a rag before pushing himself to his feet. "We're just finishing up the repairs now."

Sico raised an eyebrow as he surveyed the scene. "How's everything looking? Are we still on track to run another test?"

Mel nodded, his expression confident despite the earlier setback. "We're almost there. Replaced the faulty coolant pump, flushed the system, and ran some diagnostics just to make sure. So far, everything's checking out. We've just got a few final adjustments to make, but I'm confident that this time the test will go off without a hitch."

Sico's gaze drifted over to the Sentinel, its massive frame looming over the engineers who swarmed around it like ants. Despite the earlier malfunction, the tank still looked as imposing as ever, and Sico could feel a renewed sense of anticipation building in his chest. He crossed his arms, nodding as he processed Mel's words.

"Good," Sico said after a moment, his voice calm but laced with the edge of authority. "I don't want any more surprises, Mel. This thing needs to be perfect before we roll it out for real-world operations. Lives are going to depend on this, and I need to be absolutely sure it won't break down under pressure."

Mel nodded vigorously, his usual easygoing demeanor replaced by one of intense focus. "I hear you, General. Believe me, I'm not cutting any corners. We've double-checked everything, and once we finish these last few tweaks, we'll run another diagnostic just to be sure. I'm not letting this thing out onto the field until I'm one hundred percent confident it can handle anything we throw at it."

Sico studied the engineer for a moment, his sharp gaze searching Mel's face for any sign of uncertainty. But Mel's determination was clear, and Sico felt a measure of reassurance. Mel might be casual in his demeanor, but when it came to his work, he was thorough and professional. Sico had trusted him with countless projects before, and the engineer had always delivered.

"I trust you, Mel," Sico finally said, his voice softer but still firm. "Just make sure we're ready before we put it through its paces again. I want to see what the Sentinel can really do."

Mel gave a lopsided grin, his hands on his hips as he surveyed the tank. "You won't be disappointed, General. Once we finish up here, we'll be good to go. No more hiccups."

Satisfied for the moment, Sico moved closer to the Sentinel, inspecting the work that had been done. The engine compartment, which had been a mess of smoke and malfunctioning components earlier, was now a much more organized scene. The new coolant pump was already installed, gleaming slightly with fresh oil as the engineers carefully reattached hoses and checked for leaks. The team worked methodically, communicating quietly with one another as they completed their tasks. Sico could tell that despite the setback, morale was still high. This was the kind of work that required precision, and Mel's team seemed more than up to the challenge.

Sico reached out, running a gloved hand along the Sentinel's armored plating. The metal felt cool and solid beneath his fingers, a stark reminder of the power the tank represented. If they could get this right—if the Sentinel performed as expected—it could be a game-changer for Sanctuary's defenses. They had enemies on all sides, and they needed every advantage they could get.

As he stood there, lost in thought, Mel's voice broke through the haze. "We're just about ready to fire her up again, General. Want to stick around for the next test?"

Sico turned, nodding. "Of course. Let's get this done."

Mel waved to his team, signaling them to start the final checks. The hum of power tools and the clatter of metal on metal filled the air as the last few adjustments were made. The engineers moved with purpose, clearly eager to see the Sentinel in action again. After a few more tense minutes, Mel straightened up from his crouched position and wiped his hands on his coveralls once more.

"Alright, General," he said with a grin, "we're ready. The engine's been patched up, and everything's running smoothly so far. Time to put her through her paces again."

Sico's expression was unreadable, but the anticipation in the air was palpable. He followed Mel back to the raised platform where they had observed the earlier test. The technicians were already back at their stations, their hands hovering over their consoles as they prepared to monitor the Sentinel's performance.

Mel tapped his earpiece, issuing commands to the crew inside the tank. "Alright, folks. Let's start her up again. We're going to run through the same sequence as before. Keep an eye on those temperature gauges and report any anomalies immediately."

There was a brief pause, then the ground rumbled once again as the Sentinel's engine roared to life. This time, the sound was smoother, more controlled, and there was no sign of the smoke that had plagued them earlier. The massive treads began to roll forward, churning up the dirt beneath them as the tank began its second pass across the testing field.

Sico watched intently, his sharp eyes flicking between the tank and the monitors displaying real-time data. Everything seemed to be running smoothly this time—the engine was stable, the suspension was handling the uneven terrain with ease, and the targeting system was responding as expected.

"Engine's stable," the crew's voice crackled over the comms. "No signs of overheating. All systems nominal."

Mel shot Sico a triumphant look. "Looks like we're in business this time, General."

Sico nodded, though his attention remained on the Sentinel. The tank was moving faster now, picking up speed as it rolled over the testing field. The turret swiveled smoothly, and the massive cannon raised and lowered with precision. Everything seemed to be working perfectly.

"Let's push it a little harder," Sico ordered, his voice calm but commanding. "I want to see how it handles under stress."

Mel relayed the command to the crew, and the Sentinel surged forward, its engine growling as it picked up even more speed. The tank tore across the field, kicking up dust and debris in its wake. The crew inside continued to report back, their voices steady and professional.

"Suspension's holding up well. No issues with the treads. Targeting system is fully operational."

Sico felt a sense of satisfaction settle over him as he watched the Sentinel tear across the field. This was what they had been working toward. The tank was performing flawlessly now, and Sico could see the potential it held.

After a few more passes, Mel gave the order to bring the tank to a stop. The Sentinel rolled to a halt, its engine purring smoothly as it idled in place. Sico turned to Mel, a rare smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

"Looks like we've got ourselves a winner," Sico said, his voice quiet but filled with approval.

Mel grinned, wiping the sweat from his brow. "Told you, General. She's ready to go."

Sico nodded, his mind already turning to the next steps. "Good work, Mel. Now let's get her fully operational and ready for deployment. We've got a lot more work to do, but this is a solid start."

With that, Sico turned and walked away from the platform, his thoughts already racing ahead. The Sentinel was one step closer to becoming the powerful weapon they needed, and he wouldn't rest until it was ready for the battlefield.

The next day, the sun hung lazily in the mid-morning sky, casting long shadows over the now-familiar testing field. The smell of fresh earth, grease, and machine oil lingered in the air as Sico made his way back to the site. This time, the field seemed even busier than before—Mel and his team had redoubled their efforts, making preparations to get the Sentinel fully operational.

The towering machine stood proudly in the middle of the field, its newly repaired engine idling smoothly as engineers and technicians bustled around it, performing final checks and making adjustments. It looked like a sleeping giant, its treads firmly planted in the dirt and its massive turret aimed toward the horizon, as if waiting for the moment it would unleash its full power.

Sico scanned the scene, taking in the organized chaos with a practiced eye. He saw engineers clustering around various parts of the tank, checking connections, tightening bolts, and inspecting systems. The team was clearly working hard to get everything perfect, but despite the frenetic pace, there was an air of quiet confidence. The test had gone well the previous day, and now it was just a matter of fine-tuning before the Sentinel would be ready for deployment.

As Sico approached, Mel spotted him from across the field and waved, quickly making his way over to greet him. The engineer looked tired but energized, his face lit with a sense of accomplishment. His coveralls were once again stained with oil and grime, but his expression was one of satisfaction.

"Morning, General!" Mel called out as he jogged up to Sico. "You're just in time. We're making some final adjustments before running the last round of diagnostics. If everything checks out, we'll be fully operational by the end of the day."

Sico nodded, his eyes drifting toward the massive tank as it loomed over the scene. "Looks like you and your team are making good progress."

Mel grinned, rubbing a hand through his messy hair. "Yeah, we're just about there. I'm confident that by the time we're done, the Sentinel will be ready to roll out. This baby's gonna be a game-changer, General. We've already got the specs locked in, so now it's just about making sure everything's running smoothly."

Sico turned his full attention to Mel, his expression thoughtful. "Speaking of the specs, I need you to do something for me, Mel."

Mel raised an eyebrow, sensing the shift in Sico's tone. "What's on your mind, General?"

"I want you and your team to send the blueprints and schematics for the Sentinel to the Trucks and Humvee production team," Sico said, his voice steady but firm. "We need to start preparing for mass production. I want at least six or eight Sentinels in the field as soon as possible."

Mel's eyes widened slightly at the request, but his expression quickly shifted to one of determination. "You want to start production already?"

Sico nodded, his gaze fixed on the tank. "We're going to need more than just one Sentinel if we want to make a real impact. This thing can change the course of a battle, but not if it's the only one out there. We need to build a fleet—six, maybe eight to start—and then expand from there. I want every production facility we have working on this."

Mel exhaled, clearly processing the weight of the request. It wasn't just a matter of handing over the blueprints—it would require coordination between multiple teams, setting up a dedicated production line, and ensuring that the necessary resources and materials were available. But Mel was nothing if not resourceful, and he knew this was the next logical step.

"Alright, General," Mel said after a moment, nodding decisively. "I'll get the blueprints sent over to the production teams as soon as we're done here. We'll start coordinating with the Trucks and Humvee team to help them set up the production line for the Sentinel. It's going to take a little time to get everything in place, but once we've got the process down, we'll be cranking these out like clockwork."

Sico gave a satisfied nod, his sharp gaze flicking back to the Sentinel. "Good. I want regular updates on the production timeline. Make sure we've got the resources we need—steel, alloys, whatever it takes. And don't compromise on quality. I want these things built to the same exacting standards as this prototype."

Mel crossed his arms, his usual easygoing demeanor replaced with a sense of focus. "You got it, General. We'll make sure everything's up to spec. And hey, if you want six or eight Sentinels, you're gonna get 'em. I'll make sure the production team is ready to handle the load."

Sico nodded once more, his mind already racing ahead. There was no time to waste—if Sanctuary was going to survive the coming battles, they needed every advantage they could get. The Sentinel was their trump card, and Sico wasn't about to let it languish as a mere prototype. They needed a fleet, and they needed it fast.

"Make sure to keep me in the loop," Sico said, his voice calm but commanding. "I want to know as soon as the production line is up and running."

"Will do, General," Mel replied, flashing a grin despite the seriousness of the situation. "You can count on me."

With that, Mel turned back to his team, already issuing orders to prepare the final set of diagnostics. Sico remained where he was for a moment, watching as the engineers moved with renewed purpose. They had a lot of work ahead of them, but with Mel at the helm, Sico knew they were in good hands.

As the hours passed, the hum of machinery and the clatter of tools filled the air as the final preparations for the Sentinel's operational debut were completed. The sun climbed higher, casting long shadows across the testing field as the day wore on.

By mid-afternoon, Mel approached Sico once again, a satisfied smile on his face. "General, we're just about done here. The Sentinel's ready for full operations, and I've already sent the schematics over to the production team. They're working on setting up the line as we speak."

Sico turned, nodding his approval. "Good work, Mel. Now let's see what this thing can really do."

Mel grinned, his excitement palpable. "You got it, General. Let's make history."

As the two men stood side by side, watching the Sentinel's engine roar to life once more, Sico couldn't help but feel a surge of anticipation. This was just the beginning, but it was a start. Soon, Sanctuary would have the firepower it needed to defend itself, and with the Sentinel leading the charge, victory was within their grasp.

The future was uncertain, but for the first time in a long while, Sico felt a flicker of hope. The Sentinel would be their shield, their sword, and with it, they would stand a fighting chance.
