Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: The Unforgiving Night

The barren wasteland stretched endlessly before Lucas Thorne, an unforgiving expanse of desolation. He had been cast out of the once-familiar walls of Echelon Bunker, betrayed by the very people he had called family. Now, he walked for miles on end through the radioactive ruins of a world scarred by the aftermath of World War 3.The journey was relentless, fraught with danger at every turn. Gloomfangs, predatory creatures of the wasteland, had crossed his path more than once. With his trusty rifle, Lucas eliminated them swiftly, but he knew that worse adversaries roamed these desolate lands.Occasionally, he encountered packs of acidspines, grotesque creatures with corrosive acid oozing from their spines. These were among the lower power levels in this new world, yet their numbers made them formidable. Each encounter with them was a harrowing dance of survival, and Lucas just barely escaped their relentless pursuit.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting an eerie twilight glow over the wasteland, darkness crept up behind him. He knew, just as everyone did, that being outside in the pitch-black night was far from wise, especially with his limited supplies. But then, as if fate had taken pity on him, he came across what appeared to be a former city. Its broken skyscrapers and shattered streets told stories of a world long lost. Lucas thanked his stars for this potential sanctuary, though he approached with more caution than he knew he had left. His father's words echoed in his mind: "Cities are the den of scavenger humans and also mutated creatures." He knew he couldn't afford to be careless.

Approaching the city with stealth, he saw an abandoned building at the outskirts. Lucas made a calculated decision and returned his rifle to his little wagon, a makeshift cart he had been pulling with him, to avoid attracting unwanted attention. He then reached for his plasma blade and approached the building with careful steps. As he neared the building's entrance, he caught faint sounds of movement from inside. His heart raced, literally in his throat. He knew that any noise in this world could mean the difference between life and death. Gritting his teeth, he kicked down the door, revealing the dimly lit interior. His eyes widened as he took in the scene. The enemy of all survivors lurked inside—a pack of Radvermin, nightmarish creatures that roamed in packs. This particular pack was ravaging the building, tearing it apart for what little supplies remained.Lucas brandished his plasma blade, its blue energy crackling to life, and without hesitation, he cut down the nearest Radvermin. The sudden flash of the blade served as a cue for the rest of the pack. They let out a collective hiss and scattered, scurrying away in a blur of grotesque movement.Breathing heavily, Lucas watched them retreat into the dark corners of the building. He had averted immediate danger, but he knew this city held more secrets, both human and mutated creatures, waiting to be discovered. In the unforgiving night, Lucas Thorne's journey had taken a new turn. His quest for justice and survival had led him to a city of the past, where the lines between friend and foe blurred, and where the true horrors of this world remained hidden in the shadows.
