Chapter 27 - The god of devine jest

The divine duo, Sammy and Thor, marched through the labyrinthine maze of doors with determined grins and playful banter. Little did they know, Astronia, the trickster demon, had one last grand illusion prepared for them in her throne room.

Finally reaching the throne room, Sammy took a theatrical bow. "Your grand highness Astronia, we've come to end the show. No more illusions, please."

Thor added with a smirk, "Yeah, we're not in the mood for your demonic theatrics."

Astronia, seated on her throne, laughed sinisterly. "Oh, you think you can just waltz in here and end my spectacle? I have one last act for you."

Suddenly, the room transformed. Dark clouds gathered, and from the shadows emerged a colossal monster – a creature straight from the darkest corners of nightmares. Its monstrous form sent shivers down their spines.

Thor eyed the monstrosity and chuckled. "Well, I've faced frost giants and fiery serpents. This one doesn't look that intimidating."

But as the colossal beast charged at them, its ferocity became apparent. Thor swung his mighty hammer, Mjolnir, unleashing bolts of lightning upon the creature, but the monster proved resilient. Sammy, with his gauntlets ablaze, joined the fray, attacking with bursts of fiery energy.

The monster, undeterred, unleashed devastating blows, each strike sending shockwaves through the room. Laughter echoed as Astronia reveled in her illusion's chaos.

Despite their godly might, Sammy and Thor found themselves on the defensive. The monster's relentless assault forced them to dodge and weave through its attacks. Sammy quipped, "Remind me not to underestimate demonic stage props."

Thor grinned, "This play might need some improv, my friend."

Their banter continued amidst the chaos as they struggled against the overwhelming force of the demonic creation. The monster's roars drowned out their laughter, but the gods fought valiantly.

Amused by the unfolding spectacle, Astronia watched from her throne. "Dance, my puppets, dance! My grand illusion will soon have its grand finale."

As the battle wore on, the monster unleashed a devastating attack, catching Thor off guard. The force of the blow sent him sprawling across the room, while Sammy narrowly avoided a direct hit.

Thor grumbled, "Well, that was unexpected."

The monstrous creature, seizing the opportunity, lunged towards Thor, its jaws wide open. Sammy, reacting swiftly, summoned a barrier of golden fire to shield his comrade.

Desperation set in as the monster's jaws closed in on Thor. Sammy, with quick thinking, unleashed a surge of energy to distract the creature. He shouted, "Hey, big guy, over here!"

The monster turned its attention to Sammy, giving Thor a chance to regroup. Sammy smirked, "Now, let's add some flair to this performance."

Using his reality-bending powers, Sammy created a mirage of himself. The monster, confused, lunged at the illusion, buying them precious moments.

Astronia, watching the trickery unfold, clenched her fists. "Impressive, but it won't save you. This illusion is my masterpiece."

Despite Sammy's clever maneuver, the monster's assault intensified. Thor, determined to end the spectacle, gathered his strength and unleashed a barrage of lightning strikes. The room crackled with energy as the monster roared in agony.

But Astronia, grinning with satisfaction, summoned even more illusions to complicate the battle.

As they fought through Astronia's illusions, Sammy spotted a weakness in the monster's attacks. He whispered to Thor, "I've got an idea. Follow my lead."

Distracting the monster with a dazzling display of energy, Sammy positioned himself strategically. Thor, catching on, unleashed a powerful strike aimed at the creature's vulnerable spot.

However, just as victory seemed within reach, Astronia unveiled her final trick. With a wicked grin, she summoned a colossal version of the monster, its power overwhelming.

The room shook as the monstrous illusion loomed over them. Thor, feeling the weight of the situation, muttered, "Well, this just got interesting."

The colossal monster delivered a devastating blow, overwhelming the gods with its sheer force. Despite their best efforts, Sammy and Thor found themselves on the brink of defeat.

Sammy, battered and bruised, struggled to his feet. "Thor, this is getting out of hand. We need to end this."

Thor, grinning despite the odds, replied, "Agreed, my friend. Let's give this grand illusion its grand finale."

The gods, summoning their remaining strength, launched a coordinated attack. But the colossal monster, fueled by Astronia's illusion, seemed unstoppable.

Astronia reveled in her triumph, confident that victory was within her grasp. "This illusion will be my greatest masterpiece. Their demise will be spectacular!"

In a last-ditch effort, Sammy and Thor confronted the colossal monster head-on. The room trembled as their powers clashed, but the odds were against them.

Astronia, ready to savor her victory, stepped forward from her hiding place. "Now, I'll just take your soul cores, and Zulu will reward me richly."

As Sammy and Thor, exhausted and battered, lay defeated on the ground, their bodies started to fade away. Astronia cackled in triumph, believing she had emerged victorious.

But then, a voice echoed from behind her – a voice like the harbinger of death. "When you get to hell, tell Hades the god of jest sent you."

Before she could react, a golden gauntlet pierced through her chest, holding her heart. A look of shock crossed Astronia's face as she dropped dead, her body burning to ashes.

Sammy stood there, gauntlet dripping with blood. With a sinister smile, he squashed the heart in his hands. Thor, standing behind him, laughed heartily. "Who would have thought the queen of trickery would be ended by a trick as mundane as this?"

Since transcending, Sammy had honed his reality-bending powers. He had hidden both himself and Thor at the right moment during their fight with the colossal monster. What the monster was fighting with from almost half of the battle were just mere clones of the gods brought to reality by Sammy. The trickster had been outwitted by a mere comedian.

Picking up Astronia's soul core from the ashes, Sammy looked at Thor. "What do you say we have a feast? I killed a demon general, after all."

Thor smiled, "I'll put in a word to Mum."

With a flash of lightning, the two gods vanished from the throne room, leaving behind the remnants of Astronia's illusions and a lingering laughter that echoed through the demonic corridors. The grand illusion had indeed met its grand finale – with a touch of divine jest and a pinch of mortal trickery.
