The soundless depths of space has always been a comforting idea to me. Similar to sitting In a box that was sealed off to the outside world, sitting there with my thoughts. I always wanted to go to the moon, to look down at the bright globe that every human took for granted. Now I was not the smartest person, but I liked to believe that I could overcome any obstacle that got in my way. For the several years we were cultivating the moon, it was peaceful and easy going. It was supposed to be easy. But on an odd hour we lost communication with our main station back on earth. Something had to of gone wrong, we never lost contact with earth. We tried for weeks to get back in touch, but we never did make any progress. I mean it's not like it just up and vanished, we could look at it, we could see earth like nothing had changed. But something felt off about it, I could swear some things were a different color and shape to what they were before we lost contact. But one day we caught a signal. It had been extremely spotty, but we had a connection. The rest of my life would seem to fall apart after I heard what they said. "Moon Cultivation team do you copy?!" The signal had said. We barely were able to make it out through the heavy static, seemingly in a panic. "This is Moon cultivation team, what happened down there, why'd we lose contact with you, what happened?" We replied in a rush, hoping to make it through before we lost contact. "Th- the moon i- it's gone" I felt my heart drop what felt like 2 stories into the bottom of my intestines, ready to leave my body from the pure dread that those words brought. I couldn't tell if they were serious. I mean, earth was right in front of me, how could the moon we were on just be gone? "What do you mean?" I replied, trying to get ahold of myself. I looked around the room at the terrified faces of my colleagues, they all felt the same way I did. Through the thick static the last things we ever heard from them were.. "HOLY SHI-" then the static drowned out any chances we had at communication. Our conversation however short had come to an abrupt end. To this day I have no idea what happened but I can only assume the worst. Now that was a few years ago, we have tried everything since then to get our comms connected with earth even just one more time. But no dice. We sent a few ships down to earth, but lost communication with them as right after they entered the atmosphere, we couldn't figure out why, its almost like they just vanished. And we still couldn't figure out what he ment when he said the moon was gone. The earth that we could see hadn't changed at all. The massive green patches of land hadn't changed, but then again, I could swear that the tone of the green had changed. It seemed to be deeper, darker. Like it had gotten too much water. And I could swear that earth's oceans weren't that dark either. One thing I've never noticed before, there was a huge spire, from my spot on the moon I was looking at a one quarter inch tall piece of deep crimson metal. I had assumed it was metal cause it had the sun reflecting off it. I kind of just brushed it off. My colleague strolled up to me with a leisurely pace, tapping my shoulder and told me "I need your help with something" I sighed and followed, we walked through the oddly empty halls of of the main ship. The walls were cover in insulated wires as thick as my torso and thousands of feet long, twisting and winding through passages. I thought it was odd to have such a huge weakness. You cut the main wire that is visible throughout the ship and boom, you lose power to anything past the cut.
