Chapter 98 - Electric Blade

After the goddess of the lake left, Wayne couldn't help but stretch and let out a pleasant sigh. Holding the pearl bestowed by the goddess, he came to Geralt and Yennefer, told them the prophecy of the goddess, and tried not to affect their future because of spoilers. He then gave the pearl to Yennefer. Both of them had complicated expressions. As witchers and sorceresses, they believed in fate and the power of prophecy more than ordinary people who were stupid and ignorant.

Besides, this fable comes from the legendary goddess of the lake, known to be a kind and ancient god. The power of fate, whether you believe it or not, few people can change. Seeing that the two were very thoughtful after hearing the prophecy, Wayne didn't care about them anymore. Instead, he came to the disabled knight Eyck and told him about his request to the goddess of the lake to save him.

This news made Eyck very excited, and he even abnormally expressed his gratitude to Wayne. After chatting with him for a few minutes, Wayne found that, rather than healing his injuries, this guy was more excited to meet the legendary goddess of the lake. His belief in the five virtues of knights far surpassed that of ordinary people. Understanding is far more important than life.

It is precisely because of this that Wayne feels that this guy may become the number one licking dog of the Goddess of the Lake in the future. However, the kindness of the Goddess, may change his twisted paranoia and make him a truly noble man. A knight, maybe he can change the tragic fate of himself and his family.

Two days later, Wayne returned to Vizima alone. After discovering signs of reconciliation between Geralt and Yennefer. Geralt immediately abandoned his good brother and prepared to follow Yennefer to find a commission near the city where the sorceress was.

Although Borch's promised reward had not been given to him, Wayne paid out of his own pocket to Geralt as a reward for this dragon-hunting mission, giving it to Geralt.

This act moved Geralt while also causing a flicker of shame. While Wayne's contribution to the mission was minimal, Geralt could be considered to have done practically nothing. He hadn't even participated in any fights

However, being a straightforward individuals, Geralt, after some persuasion from Wayne, graciously accepted the gold coins. As witchers possess long lifespans, stretching into centuries, any debts incurred could be repaid in the future.

Before leaving Holobur, Wayne also secured a favor. He persuaded Borch's Zerrikanian warriors to release Yarpen and his dwarf squad. Though these dwarves belonged to the Dragon Slaying Squad, their contributions were negligible throughout the mission. Therefore, their execution wouldn't be entirely justified. Additionally, Yarpen held a considerable reputation and standing among the young dwarves of Mahakam. Executing him impulsively would only spark dwarven animosity. By taking the initiative to secure their release, Wayne fostered goodwill with this group. This act might translate into future opportunities for collaboration.

.......

After handling trivial matters, Wayne hurried home. Upon returning, he took a bath, changed clothes, closed the door tightly, and sat on the bed. He even lit a bottle of expensive incense in the bedroom and set out a few fruits as offerings. The last time he didn't receive many rewards from the treasure chests, he suspected it was due to his lack of devotion and ritual.

This time, armed with the lucky blessings bestowed by the goddess, Wayne knelt on the bed, silently praying to the gods he knew from his previous life. Then, he clicked on the master treasure chest in the system along with the attached expert-level treasure chest, initiating the process of unlocking.

After three calming breaths, Wayne closed his eyes.

Ding! Master treasure chest opened.

He obtained 1214 pieces of Oren and an Electric Blade. As the system sound echoed, a heavy money bag and an eighty-centimeter blade materialized on his bed.

Wayne was overcome with excitement. Items from the master treasure chest were rare or treasure-level, just one tier below the strongest epic treasure chest. The value of the sword was undoubtedly high. The lucky blessing from the goddess of the lake proved immensely powerful. Wayne wondered if his prayer ceremony had also contributed.

Ignoring the money bag for the moment, Wayne focused on the blade that had appeared. " Electric Blade? What kind of weapon is this?"

In no time, a familiar name came to mind—Electric Blade, a renowned equipment in the League of Legends universe. It was a favored item of Yasuo, the agile wind swordsman and critical strike specialist.

As Wayne grasped the blade, the system helpfully provided its description:

Electric Blade: A weapon of unknown origin from Valoran, capable of unleashing potent lightning magic during strikes. Its creator remains a mystery, yet the blade's reputation resonates among swordsmen.

Attributes: Crafted from unique materials, the blade embodies the power of wind and thunder. It boasts exceptional sharpness, durability, and the ability to enhance the user's movement, attack speed, and reflexes.

Special Ability: Chain Lightning. While wielding this weapon, it absorbs surrounding magic and the user's own magical reserves, storing them within its core. Once fully charged, the user can trigger a powerful chain lightning attack that strikes multiple enemies within a limited range. This ability has a cooldown of 180 seconds.

Overcome with excitement, Wayne seized the blade and examined it meticulously. The silver-white, straight blade emanated a cold glint, while the intricately crafted hilt, wrapped in an unidentified leather, offered both beauty and practicality. Its comfortable grip hinted at the work of a master craftsman. The most striking feature, however, was the dense network of unknown magical inscriptions etched across the blade's surface, numbering nearly a thousand.

As Wayne grasped the hilt, he felt a subtle pull drawing his chaotic magical energy into the weapon. The engraved inscriptions responded accordingly, gradually changing and emitting a faint luminescence as they became infused with magic. After roughly three minutes, all the inscriptions illuminated, transforming the originally silver-white blade into a faint blue under their collective glow. Interestingly, upon reaching full capacity, the Electric Blade ceased absorbing his magic and instead channeled the excess back into him. This resulted in a noticeable increase in his physical dexterity and mental clarity.

Wayne had a hunch that as long as he actively infused some magic power into the blade, all the inscriptions within it could be activated to unleash powerful magic. It would likely manifest as the chain lightning mentioned in the introduction, capable of striking several targets within its range.

Wayne estimated that the blade had absorbed about one-tenth of the chaotic magic power from his body, significantly more than the consumption of a single Igni sign. Moreover, this magic power wasn't solely provided by Wayne; the blade itself absorbed magic power from the surrounding air. It was conceivable that when this chain lightning magic was activated, its power would be quite astonishing.

The only downside was that the weapon was a blade, not the longsword favored by witchers. When facing larger monsters, although the blade offered greater agility and versatility in combat, it also came with limitations that outweighed its advantages. Compared to battling monsters, the blade was better suited for fighting human adversaries, particularly against heavily armored foes. A single chain lightning strike could render them powerless without even penetrating their armor.
