Hazel squeezed Tobias's hand before letting go of it. She didn't see why they could not hold hands after they had just become engaged, but she would try learning all the palace rules quickly.
'How often have I seen the king holding the queen's hand?' Hazel wondered. She failed to recall the times that they did.
Even as they stood now there was some space between them.
Hazel looked away from them to her and Tobias, trying to measure the space that was between her and Tobias. There was hardly any space so Hazel stepped to the right.
Tobias looked at her as if she had offended him. "Don't even think about it," he said, closing that space. "You don't want anyone to think there is trouble in paradise with you being so quick to move away from me, do you?"
"I am just following what your parents are doing," Hazel said, speaking softly so the queen wouldn't hear her.
"Don't do that. Our marriage won't be exciting," Tobias said.
