Tabitha looked straight ahead to avoid Jeffrey's gaze. Why was it important to discuss shoes when she was going to have the size changed?
"Tabitha," Jeffrey called to her, impatient for an answer. "Speak now."
"My shoes are too small for my feet," Hazel answered.
Jeffrey turned to Hazel.
"They are too small and rather than say something, I endured the pain. The queen has agreed to have the size changed for me, but the new shoes won't be here until sometime tomorrow so I will use the shoes I brought with me from home," Hazel explained further. "It is the same with my dresses."
"Tomorrow? You mean to tell me that in this palace there is no one to bring new shoes for you right away? Or go to your room to get shoes that would fit you? That doesn't make any sense," Jeffrey said, facing his awfully quiet wife.
