While Quinn was still in the World of Shadow and Light, battling the shape shifter, things in Kestell were escalating. There were guards harassing people claiming that every commoner was an accomplice in the massacre of the Silva residents.
Vanessa went to school the next day hoping to meet with Quinn, to give him a chance to explain things to her. First he needed a hug, then he pulls off right when she was feeling it. How can someone be so cruel. This was the moment Vanessa realized that she of the Silva residents was actually developing feelings for a commoner.
When she was in class, Tom approached her. "Hey Vanessa, I thought you'd be coming with Quinn to school today. Where did you leave him?" Vanessa was outraged when Tom appeared, but when she heard him talk of Quinn, she was uncontrollably at ease. "Quinn? Where is he? Have you seen him today?" Tom had no idea as to how he can talk to Vanessa, he just asked her the same thing. She turns around and ask him the whereabouts of his very same friend, who was last seen by Vanessa according to him.
"What actually happened yesterday? I haven't seen or heard from Quinn ever since, what's the story behind this?" He dragged a chair and sat down, "Now, spill the beans." Vanessa wanted to tear the head of Tom off, but she figured talking to him might grant her information regarding Quinn's whereabouts. So she started to tell him everything.
…
'Now now, how about that. Her attacks are very fast, but what if I try that thing?' Quinn let his body move freely as if he was experiencing an adrenaline rush, the shape shifter's attacks were getting faster with every minute passing by. So if Quinn does not adapt quickly enough, he might lose his life here.
SWOOOSH! WOOSH! BANG!!
Quinn felt his body crashing on the nearby trees, 'Got it.' He got up and dusted himself, wiped the blood that was dripping from the edge of his mouth. "I might have underrated you, surface dweller. You're one nut to crack." Quinn wanted to smile, but he stopped himself. "Huh, you're now omitting words. What about the 'tough' that should be said before 'nut'? You're still underestimating me, that's not really fair little fish."
Quinn smiled a vicious smile before a white light started emitting and engulfing his whole body, the shape shifter rushed in to stop Quinn from unleashing whatever move he had up his sleeve. But unfortunately, she couldn't make it in time. The whole garden shined like it was a hot summer daylight. She saw the whole world turn upside down, until she saw her body standing with no head. 'Right, I died!"
The last words she heard coming from Quinn's mouth were "Sunfire". Quinn panted heavily when he saw the shape shifter was now defeated, 'I should really train more, not using my magic really took a toll on my body.' Quinn was surprised when suddenly the shape shifter appeared before him, 'What? A surprise attack?'
The shape shifter swam in the air aiming directly at Quinn's stomach, he was too tired to react to this. The shape shifter hugged Quinn and started singing, 'Huh? Tell me I'm dreaming, is this how my afterlife is like? This garden?' Quinn was in a state of shock, he used a spell he had no idea he can use. And it depleted about 4% of his mana, but because he has no advanced knowledge of magic and mana pool, the mana he's able to use is about 15% of the total mana he has.
Quinn was awakened by the voice he heard when he first arrived at this place, "Really remarkable, being able to use [Sunfire] at such an early age. There really might be some hope for you." Quinn dropped his jaws, "And what in the world is [Sunfire]?" Anemic was once again dumbfounded by how stupid Quinn really was.
"[Sunfire] is a spell which creates a sphere of searing light that burns enemies and purifies any corruption or darkness lingering around the area, pretty cool huh?" Quinn was about to answer when he heard Anemic say, "Domain of The Doomed!" Quinn was once again surrounded by total darkness, and he was hearing voices calling his name. "Quinn, come dance with us."
…
Vanessa worked her hardest, but she couldn't get the truth from Tom. All Tom said was, Quinn went to visit his sick grandma since she can die anytime soon. Vanessa didn't buy this story, "Tommy, do you trust me?" She said this in an erotic manner so that Tom can be pulled in and spill the beans quickly.
Tom was swallowing hard, he could also feel his back getting sweaty. "No, honestly I don't." Vanessa was agitated but decided to keep it in, "And why is that? Aren't I your dream girl?" Tom really felt like he was going to kill Quinn when he comes back, he will remain single because of his friend. 'Curse you Quinn!'
"Vanessa, look. This is something Quinn told me when we were in Grade 7 when I nearly lost him as a friend, his exact words were that…
'Trust starts with truth and ends with truth. The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them. Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters. Trust has to be earned.'
And I was still a kid back then, so understanding it was difficult. But now I'll do nothing to betray his trust, after such a long time working to regain it. Sorry Vanessa, you should go see his grandma's house." Vanessa really felt like she could die at any minute, she reached in her pocket and pulled a card written, "Phenex Residence" with phone numbers embedded on it.
She hurried out of the class, if one observed closely they could see the steam coming out of her head. She dialled Phenex's numbers from the card and made a call. It rang only 2 times and it was picked up, "I was waiting for your call, Little Wolf." Vanessa wanted really bad to find out how Phenex knew it was her on the other side of the line, but her rage blinded her and clouded her judgement. "I think I'm ready."
…
'What the hell is with this place? I'm slowly losing all my senses, I can't even feel my legs anymore. It's a miracle that I'm still able to walk in a straight line.' Quinn was lost in his thoughts as this was the first time he ever experienced a sense loss. Just when he was still stressed by his lost senses, he felt he has been cut by something very sharp. But due to the loss of senses, he could not really feel the pain.
A loud screeching sound could be heard throughout the area Quinn was in, but he could not hear it. If he was able to see, he would immediately notice that it was a bird with wings that are midnight black and shiny. 'An attack that I can't feel and see, this is going to be more than troublesome.'
…
Meanwhile in Kestell, Vanessa and Phenex were sitting on the table that him and Patiel were dining after he found him on the streets. "You have a brother that you've yet to meet, but worry not for he is on his way here." After saying that Phenex smiled a vicious smile, 'Master, you shall get to the power you required before the time is up. Chaos shall spread as you wish.'
