Serenity felt the night go by so painfully slow as her tears continued to fill her eyes. She was feeling too many emotions at once but she knew that one of them was her love for Malkiel.
She didn't know when it started or how, but she couldn't care anymore. She could care less too if she had felt like that even when she and Jace were still together. If people would see it as a form of cheating then so be it.
But she won't change her mind anymore, she has realized that her happiness was always beside her, always looking out and caring for her. And she had been too dumb to even see. She was so focused on someone who wouldn't reciprocate her love that she failed to see that she was being given all the love she needed.
After gaining her composure, she dialed the number she didn't want to remember again after this. She vowed that this would be the last time. After three rings, a voice greeted her angrily accompanied by a sharp woman's voice at the back.
"What?"
"Is that Serenity again? Is she still bothering you? Does she want to get back together?"
Serenity smiled bitterly as she flopped down on her bed. Hearing Hyacinth's voice made her irritated but she decided to kill the irritation down.
"I'd like to say my goodbye, Jace"
The other line went silent for a while before she heard the opening and closing of a door, Jace didn't say anything but she knew that he must've moved away from Hyacinth's peering eyes. Serenity didn't mind so she kept on talking.
"The two years with you were something both wonderful and unbearable. You were my first love and knowing that you took me for granted made me feel so angry and sad. I won't ask you to take me back anymore, no, I'm saying goodbye so that this story of us can end."
Serenity held back a sniffle and continued.
"I did love you and I thought that everything you did for me was enough and that It was also love. But did you know? right now there's someone who's showing me that I'm more than what you made me think I am. There was someone who would ask me what was wrong or if something was bothering me. There's someone who asks me how's my day. There's someone who would put down their phone just to give me all of their attention. And I hated myself for comparing him with you.
Because he would never be like you. He's kind and nice. He makes me laugh and makes me feel loved. He's everything that you're not. And I want to be happy with him for all eternity.
That's why I'm saying goodbye to your memories. To you. I don't want any part of you nor the memory of you in my life anymore. I called to tell you that.
And I won't wish for your happiness either. I just hope our paths never cross again.
Goodbye Jace"
Serenity didn't hear any response on the other line but she couldn't care less. She finished the call and stared at her ceiling, crying. And yet she could feel the lightness in her heart. Yes, she was crying but she was also happy.
Now, there's just something that she needed to do. Right at this moment, she vowed to make Malkiel the happiest man on Earth. Because that's what he deserved after making her the happiest she could ever dream of.
She wouldn't focus on her fears and doubts anymore, she still had those and it would take a long time for them to go away. But, she would choose to be happy. She would trust and love Malkiel until she could no longer think about what made her scared.
The next day Serenity went to school early in the morning and saw that Drystan and Galene were already sitting on their seats Drystan's seat turned around facing Galene's, their desks were full of papers.
"Hey you're early"
"Hi, you two are earlier, it's just the two of you in here"
Serenity could have sworn she saw Drystan's ears reddened but Galene's laugh pulled her attention to her.
"We needed to, we have a lot of work"
Galene pointed to the pile of papers in front of them.
"What are those anyway?"
"Invitations for events and pubs plus upcoming club schedule after the festival."
"We'll have a break after the festival won't we?"
Serenity asked before placing her bag on her seat.
"Yeah, we'll have a week-long exam after the festival then it's the mid-year break."
Drystan answered her to which he then organized some of the papers.
"We won't have any time to organize this once exams start and well I thought everyone deserved to just have fun on their mid-year break"
Serenity scratched her cheeks before shyly asking.
"Then is it a bad time to ask for a favor?"
Both Galene and Drystan looked at Serenity before glancing at each other.
"Favor from who? Me?"
Galene asked her while pointing at herself. Serenity shook her head before pointing at Drystan.
"From him, actually"
Drystan and Galene looked at each other before staring at Serenity who breathed out deeply. She explained her plan to the two of them. Drystan and Galene listened intently to her plan and after she had explained everything Galene smiled widely at her while Drystan had a small grin on his face.
"I'd say go for it"
He said shortly.
"Yeah I bet he'll be surprised, he won't be able to forget about it for years"
"But can it work? I mean Drystan is busy"
Drystan then looked at Galene.
"You think you can handle everything by yourself until tomorrow?"
Galene just grinned widely before taking the papers off of Drystan's desk.
"Just go already, I didn't become the manager if I couldn't handle all of this"
Serenity stood from her seat and hugged Galene before kissing her cheeks.
"Thank you, you are the best"
"Alright get going already, and call Koa and Kenzo so they'll know about your plan"
"Got it, thanks, I'll help you when we finish early"
Drystan offered but Galene just waved them off before saying.
"Who do you think I am? I might even be able to finish everything before you finish practicing"
Serenity thought Drystan would be annoyed like how he always is but he just grinned at Galene before turning his attention towards Serenity.
"Come on, I got just the perfect one for you guys"
Serenity smiled as she followed Drystan to their club room leaving Galene all alone in the classroom. Everything was going smoothly with her plan, all she needed to do now was to pray that things would go the way she wanted until tomorrow.
Until the end of their school festival.
