Chapter 19 - Doctor, please save me!

"I didn't realize that there was a clinic here, but it looks a bit small, it's not a black store, right?"

On Baka Street, Lizardman Jack stood in the distance, surveying the small clinic that only had the signboard of "clinic", his expression tangled.

"Hiss! It hurts! If I don't get my hand healed, it will be completely ruined!"

"If my hand is broken, no lizard beauty will look at me, and my lizard life will be completely over!"

"But I only have three copper coins in my pocket, if I don't pay after the treatment, I will be killed, right?"

Jack held up his scale-covered left arm with his right hand, tangled and worried.

Last night he suffered the eighty-first night attack in the Abyss.

Although he had achieved a final victory, he still couldn't figure out why those guys hiding in the shadows were always staring at him, a big guy with thick armor, but very poor indeed.

And this time being attacked led to a knock on his left arm.

The iron rod bent and he heard the heartbreaking sound of cracking bones.

This was not an injury that would heal with sleep.

At first light, Jack, unable to sleep after a night of excruciating pain, immediately took to the streets in search of help.

In the Abyss, falling into a period of weakness was a very dangerous situation.

And as an orc mercenary, breaking an arm would inevitably result in a huge drop in strength, which would make it impossible for him to continue to gain a foothold in this industry.

Losing his means of earning a living, he might just have to fall like those guys hiding in the shadows.

The small clinic on Baca Street was something he had heard about in mercenary circles.

Mercenaries were a high-risk industry, injuries were commonplace for them, some injuries could be solved by purchasing just one or two bottles of hemostatic potions, but some injuries had to turn to a doctor.

There were a total of seven or eight hospitals in the Abyss, of varying sizes, all backed by major powers.

The strength of the hospitals varied, but at least they all had therapeutic magicians, enough to deal with most injuries.

Accordingly, the fees are extremely high!

A small injury could bankrupt a mercenary.

As a poor man who was already on the verge of bankruptcy before entering the hospital, Jack could only exclude those hospitals first.

Want to go to this kind of place to renege on the debt, that is like looking for death.

This small clinic on Baca Street is a bit different, it is said to be opened by a human, there is no force behind it.

However, this human will not be magic, only potions, it is said that the patient will also be opened to do surgery, means strange, but sometimes quite effective.

The key was that this place was said to be able to take credit!

With the three coins in his pocket, Jack still wanted to save them for breakfast, and if he could get credit, he could wait until his arm was better to take on quests to earn money to pay back the bill.

Tangled for a while, there is really no better choice of Jack, or go forward to knock the clinic door.

The clinic door quickly opened, the one who opened the door was an orc girl, she was wearing a long black dress, two animal ears drilled out from between her black hair, it was quite cute.

"You're a doctor?" Jack looked up at the sign with some confusion, didn't it say this was a clinic run by a human?

"No, I'm Dr. Charlotte's assistant, do you need any help?" Vivian said hastily, her voice trembling slightly, more than a little nervous about being a receptionist for the first time.

"Yes, my life is over!" Jack nodded in a rush.

"Hmm?" Vivian looked at him quizzically.

"I mean, my hand is broken, and if I can't get it back together, my life is completely over." Jack held up his left hand with a pained look on his face.

"You may come in." Vivian sidled up to let him in while her eyes went to Charlotte.

If it was just a broken bone, she would only need to use a healing spell to restore him.

But Charlotte didn't know healing arts, and there was no intermediate potion on the counter that could cure broken bones.

So how would he deal with this patient?

As soon as Jack entered, he saw a young human, white and looking a bit affected.

Aw shucks! That's not what he likes!

The fact that his hopes for life rested on this weak human made him feel a bit unsettled.

He thought of some rumors that many mercenaries never made it out of this clinic after stepping into it.

"Doctor, please help me!" Jack said stiffly as he looked at Charlotte.

"Please sit down." Charlotte let the tall lizardman sit down on a stone bed on the side, while saying, "This patient, state your injury."

Charlotte was quite satisfied with Vivian's reception, which allowed him to focus more on the matter of treating the patient.

The lizardman in front of him, who was over two and a half meters tall and covered in yellowish-brown scale armor, looked as if he had broken his left hand.

"I was attacked at night yesterday ... Ah shucks, it was a sneak attack, the arm blocked the iron bar and it seems to have broken." Jack held up his left hand, grimacing in pain from the movement.

Charlotte reached out and touched his left hand, the fine scales the size of fingernails were cold to the touch and felt nothing but hardness.

As an experienced veterinarian, he really hadn't seen a broken bone in a lizard, either!

He couldn't feel it, but the lizardman's arm was indeed misaligned to the naked eye, which meant that he did have a fracture, and a very serious one at that.

Fracture surgery wasn't that big of a deal, Charlotte had done quite a few fracture surgeries on dogs and cats and had some experience in this area.

Of course, he wasn't too sure if this experience could be applied to lizardmen.

According to the journal, the predecessor hadn't done a lot of fracture surgeries on patients.

Of course, the success rate remained touchy, and often, after doing it, it turned into an amputation.

"It's indeed a fracture, but I can't confirm what's going on inside, so I need to cut it open to see what's going on, and then I'll reset and immobilize it according to the situation." Charlotte said with a frown, without imaging assistance, the uncertainty of the surgery would increase a lot.

"Cut it open and look at it!" Jack was aghast.

How could this guy, make such horrible words, sound so light?

"Yes, in your case, surgery is necessary." Charlotte said with a serious expression.

"Just ... can't it be treated with magic or potions?" Jack whispered.

Charlotte shook her head, "If what you need is healing magic, forgive me for not being able to help, you can go to another hospital for treatment."

The corner of Jack's mouth twitched, if he had the money to go to a big hospital, would he still be here?

"This surgery, it won't hurt, will it?" Jack asked carefully.

"The procedure will be a little painful, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem for you." Charlotte looked at the thick-skinned lizardman, cold-blooded animals shouldn't be that sensitive to pain, right? After all, lizards were tough characters who could break their tails to survive.

"So will the surgery definitely save my left hand?" Jack was still unsure.

Charlotte spread her hands and said, "I won't make any guarantees, both whether the surgery is successful or not, as well as the post-operative management, which will affect the final outcome of the surgery."

Isn't this a trick? Jack was drumming in his heart, but the pain coming from his arm made it impossible for him to continue enduring, and he could only grit his teeth and say, "I'll do it!"
