"What do you mean?" Ethan retorted with a confused look.
Edward, sighed and closed his eyes.
"Don't you wonder why you suddenly changed?"
His question made Ethan raise a brow.
Liking the response, Edward continued:
"When you were born, your body was intoxicated with a very deadly poison that even your father's regenerative power could not defeat. Naturally this toxin was passed into your blood and was even more deadlier in you. Because of it, your father and mother had to seal your awakening.
The moment you awakened, you were bound to die, perhaps not immediately but eventually yes. This poison was probably the reason why you had a frail body and fainted every time. It was supposed to be much worse than that."
Edward swiped the air, changing the stream of images as he talked.
"The moment you awakened however, what I expected was not what happened."
There was an aerial image of the times where Ethan was being bullied in the different towns he was and the final town where he awakened.
"You have been monitoring me?"
Edward nodded.
"Emilia wouldn't let me come close so I had no choice but to stay far away."
Ethan's blood suddenly began to boil.
"If you were watching, then most definitely you knew when my mother was attacked." He said, clenching his fist.
The room became air tight as the young boy asked with a deep frown carved on his face.
"I was late..." Edward showed no signs of fear in responding to him, even though Ethan had a fearsome and intimidating aura around him. "You have to understand that you mother made it incredibly had for me to track them, I had no choice but to follow the steps of her trackers."
He lowered his head.
"I am very sorry I did not arrive early enough to save her. I truly wish I did. Lance left me just one single wish and it was to protect the both of you. Emilia valued you more than anything, she wanted you to live a peaceful life, away from the kind of live the ones before you have lived and I disagreed with her. It was what caused our separation and she demanded that I do not come near you at all. I had no choice but to obey I wishes."
Slowly, Ethan's anger subsided. That part of his mother was quite relatable. He bowed his head in a tormenting remembrance of the several arguments he would have with his mom.
"Please, where is my mother...?"
"I buried her, do you want to see?"
Ethan nodded, a stream of tears running down his right eye.
"We'll be back Avatar."
"My condolences. Emilia was a good friend of mine"
Ethan did not mind the AI's words and just walked out with Edward's hand on his shoulders.
Soon, they were in a cemetery, the place was covered with a serene green lush, that sprawled over the landscape adorning several gravestones with a gentle peace.
Emila's gravestone was perched atop a hill, peacefully laid beneath a lithe growing tree, in a few years the tree would grow to become a beacon for this ground.
Ethan sat cross-legged, alone with his mother. He stared at th3 gravestone that had her name on it.
Emilia Unclair
And looked towards the left of the gravestone.
Lance Unclair.
He smiled but tears flowed down his face. She carried him in her heart till the end. Ethan had never recall catching his mother having a conversation with a man, except it was general, she was always too busy or sometimes just too cold for anyone to put up with.
Now, he understood that perhaps the reason was because she never was able to let go of his father even eighteen years after his death.
Ethan wondered what kind of person he would have been. Would he have wanted the same life his mother wanted for him.
It was a lot to take in...
He let out a tired sigh, where was he supposed to start with his path. What was he supposed to do without his mother to nag at him and correct him.
His shoulders shuddered as he sobbed. He bowed his head to both of them and couldn't find the strength to stand up. The moment he got up from this position, he was bound to make a decision, he doesn't know what it is he would be facing but something was coming, he could tell from the story Edward and Avatar were narrating.
Now that future was scary, because he does not know anything about it. Moreso, he didn't know if he could fully trust Edward's decision.
There was a lot more he didn't know and that should be his first goal. To find out as much as he could.
His head stayed bowed as he prepared his mind, it was his last bow to them.
"I promise you... by the next time I will be coming here. I will bring flowers and I will also be someone both of you will be proud of. Mother, I hope you are happy with father wherever you are. Watch over me and pray for me."
He slowly picked himself to his feet. He looked at their gravestones one last time and turned away.
Unfortunately as he tried to walk, his vision suddenly got dim... before Ethan could tell what was going on. He slowly went down on the floor and fell unconscious.
