Chapter 1 - 1:I’m late to work.

I was rushing upstairs, heels clicking against the tiles, my breath hitching in my chest. As I reached for the door handle and stepped in, sweat was practically dripping down my neck. I gasped, my eyes wide at the number of stares I was getting from the employees.

Some were even whispering. What was going on? I blinked, taking out my handkerchief to wipe my neck and then tossing my car keys into my handbag. I walked through the hallways, my heart pounding in fear. Suddenly, someone grabbed my hand and pulled me into another office.

I gasped horrifically, my eyes wide open, only to meet Chloe—same familiar brown hair wrapped in a neat ponytail, big trousers and top. I released a sigh of relief.

Then I rolled my eyes. "Dramatic much?"

She stopped pacing around to look at me, almost pitifully before whispering. "Have you heard?"

I frowned, slowly tucking my long golden brown hair behind my ears, something I did when I was confused or nervous. "Heard what?"

Chloe sighed, her eyes now full of pity. "The boss…"

She whispered again, as if I was supposed to catch on to what she was saying. I sighed, knowing that whatever she was trying to say couldn't be good. I placed my hands nervously on my hips. "What happened again?"

She blinked, hesitating for a moment. I uttered. "Aside from that, I am late."

She reached out to hold me by the hands. "Yeah, that too, but right now, the boss is angry."

My eyes flew wide open. What! Crap. Crapppp crappppp.

"Don't worry. It's alright."

I lied, rubbing her shoulders so she wouldn't be too worried about me. Chloe was looking at me like she wanted to burst into tears. "Are you sure? What if he—"

"It's alright."

I cut her off, this time, wearing a smile on my lips, though it didn't reach my ears. Then she sighed. "Why do you continue working for that cold man?"

I even managed to drop a joke. "Aren't you working for him?"

Then she whispered and screamed at the same time. "Well, not as his P.A?! Yet still, I'm caught like a deer in headlights whenever I see him, I mean, everyone is."

I sighed again. "It's alright. Really, it's not that serious."

I muttered, casting her one last smile before making my way out the door. Internally, I was dying. Only God knows what he would do to me this time. I didn't want any of his punishment and I wasn't ready for his scolding today.

Who in the world made him angry now? Damn that person, cause now, I had to be the one he would take it all out on. When I reached my desk, I settled my bag on the chair, placing all my things orderly and I was still in the process when I heard the speaker boom.

"You—get in here now."

I shivered a bit, lost in a daze before realizing that he was referring to me, which meant that I had less than ten seconds to appear in his office. I whimpered, quickly getting rid of whatever I was doing at the moment to answer him. Once I reached his door front, I was confused if I should just knock or come inside.

I chose to knock.

Seconds later, his deep husky voice was reverberating back to me. "Come in."

I remained in a spot, a shiver running through my spine, and my shaky fingers slowly reached for the doorknob. I guess I was wasting too much time for him to speak again. "How long does it take you to get inside?"

I finally came inside, good thing that he was staring at his computer instead and the other files on his desk, cause I'm very sure that my feet were quivering on the floor like jelly.

I was bowing my head, for the better part of the time, but when he kept busying himself, I managed to draw my head up a little, to look around. His office was in good order, nothing seemed to be missing and so I stole a glimpse at him.

His grey eyes were obviously annoyed, though they were always cold before, but I've stayed long enough to tell apart when he was basically just being indifferent and when he was angry. After a while, he was speaking again, his deep voice a little lower this time. "What time is it?"

I blinked, well I didn't know the time, so I replied. "I didn't have enough time to wear my wristwatch today."

My reply must have caught him by surprise, because he was slowly looking away from the screen of his computer, to meet my gaze. I was staring blankly on the ground, but I heard the chair he was sitting on make a little noise on the ground which meant he was now leaning into his chair. "And so?"

He uttered, and only God knows why my mouth kept rambling things. I must have been beyond fed up with his daily trouble. "So, I think you should check yours for it." I whispered the last part. "If it's original, it should have a working time."

He was quiet, just staring at me with the same intimidating gaze he always wore. I waited for him to scold me but he didn't. "Okay."

He muttered, his grey eyes falling to his golden watch and soon, he was uttering, his voice completely annoyed. "It's 9:30am. You are arriving at work one hour and thirty minutes late."

I whispered. "Sorry, sir."

He was quiet again, just staring at me angrily. Then his phone rang in the pressure between us, he looked to the ID caller and was picking it. It didn't take long before he was cutting the call to mutter. "Come with me."

"I have a meeting to attend."

I sighed internally, wondering how long I would keep living like this. Was it even worth it anymore?
