Synopsis

Chapter 1 - 1. Expiry.

In the midst of chaos he stood there, out of confusion and worry, rooted on the same spot without a care in the world whatsoever.

With empty eyes, no trace of life in them, tears flowing downstream his cheeks. So much pain and anguish could be seen on his pale underage face.

Ben stood there wondering what to do. He had no one left in the world to call his own. With a heavy heart he desired for death for the very first time in his young life.

How could a 12 year old boy explain or grasp the concept of loosing everything that's so close to his heart, the pain was like a thousand needles piercing his heart.

Never before had something close to this happened to him and for the very first time in life he saw no need to live. So many questions arose in his mind concerning God and why He had allowed such events to manifest in his life at such a tender age.

Ben couldn't help but feel lonely and misplaced on his universe. He felt like an adult in a young boys body, so much responsibility laid ahead of him now more than ever.

The question remained, could Ben be able to survive on his own without no experience of life? He wasn't confident at all that he could make it out there by himself even for a day let alone years and years that he didn't know how many.

He didn't see himself going past that day let alone some number of years ahead in the future that he didn't see for himself. Life had lost all meaning to him.

He had lost too much in just a day, just a few hours to be precise. Ben couldn't help but wonder if he had the same fate like everyone around him.

Loosing never had a great taste and that disgusting savour still lingered in his taste buds so stubbornly not wanting to dissipate. Not knowing what to do he lay there lifeless without a desire to move.

A day prior was all amazing and joyful and that's where he sank his mind, in a memory of a day that had passed not wanting to let go...

Being the first born to his mother, Mona, Ben had seen his mother go through hurdles of life. Mona had been suffering, close relatives wanted her demise. They used demons to hunt her soul, the lady had never experienced peace ever since the same people used the very means to take her mother's life when she was just ten years old. She was the only one ever to inherit her mother's genetics and therefore eliminating the mother wasn't enough, the daughter too had to succumb a similar fate.

For Mona to survive the toments, she had to make the hardest decisions of her life inoder to sustain herself. She dropped out of school and had to run away from her maternal home and travel to a new city which was miles away from everything she knew.

She had to leave behind her siblings and father for they could do nothing about her issue as they didn't posses any counter measures for the demons. They were not being attacked themselves and nobody could explain it so they had no reason to flee from their homes. Not like they willingly let her leave, Mona had to sneak out when everyone was fast asleep and risk her life alone in the territory of witches in the hours when they were mostly active. It's pure luck that she wasn't caught.

As a young girl being tracked down by demons to suck her dry, and in a new city far away from the village she was brought up, with nobody to call her own here, she had to master the tactics to stay alive and not get misused.

She fought hard battles and won the war mostly even with her sickly body. She never gave up on herself. She sure was tough. Mona eventually found a man and they fell in love when she was just 17years old. Luck played it's part and that's how baby Ben was born. Far away from his ancestry home.

The hard life in the city proved tough for the so called dad and he abandoned his young family never to return. Mona had to return back home to keep her child whom she loved dearly safe from the not forgiving hard core city life. She knew how risky this move would be to her but again, alone and young she couldn't bring up a child let alone manage to maintain herself. Upon her return, however, the demons grew stronger as she was in their territory. Her life was in danger and several times almost died out of sicknesses that could be traced in hospitals. Without means of defeating them, Mona had to run away again yet to another city living her child behind with her siblings whom by now had grown and matured into adults.

She had to look for greener pastures and a clear mind to hustle for her son. She kept going even with her dwindling health never giving up. Once or twice she'd go back to visit her son who grew up not spending time with his mother. She could sense no affection from him as he didn't know her well enough and planned on taking him with her to the city for she had made some name for herself. This was the only thing Mona thought would bring her closer to her son, the only person she could proudly say belonged to her.

The son that didn't really know how to love. Little Ben proved hard to tame as he was mostly shy and very adamant to new concepts and mostly to his step father. Ben had been brought up without affection and he didn't know the meaning of the word. He had no feelings whatsoever and compassion wasn't something that he really knew. This was proving hard to deal with but Mona still loved him and planned on transforming this young mind. With love everything is possible...

Mona first enrolled Ben to a new school in the city and just like that he had began his school life. At first it was rather hard catching up with the rest of his peers because of his lonely lifestyle. Creating friends wasn't something he was used to because he had already gotten so used of being alone.

The teachers did a great work after learning of his background from Mona and had promised to help the kid behave like a normal child of his age. The class teacher assigned Ben new friends to play with him and distract him whenever he was in his own world.

Ben was strong mentally even from his childhood. Being alone most of the time had made him used to not trying to make others happy and he did what mostly he wanted and felt. What he sure loved was fighting and all he ever wished was to fight someone that messed with him.

Slowly but surely Ben started opening up and making friends became a piece of cake. Most kids wanted to spend more time with him because of his confidence and charming characters. From time to time he would smile which drove girls crazy when he did and slowly but surely he stated getting used to people again and Mona was the first to notice this from his son.

The shyness was swept away like it never was and Ben became as playful as ever. Surely Mona believed in her tactics of bonding with her son. Ben began to love her mother so much that he forgot her absence in the past.

Life was going well and he was growing only in happiness around his mother. His relationship with his step dad didn't improve but that wasn't important. Boys will always be boys and no boy will easily love another man that proves to love their mother. This Mona understood and it didn't bother her...
