Asher knew that since the day his friends knew of Elsa, it would lead to something like this, he knew of Lily's feelings long ago, but he never tried to reciprocate because of Elsa that was inside of him.
Elsa was his closest person, you could say that she was his soul mate, he knew that Lily would not be able to handle that fact. Ella was different, if she wanted him, she wouldn't mind the fact that it was as if she was sharing him with her, as long Elsa could give them privacy when needed.
