Jenna coughed awkwardly, it was still raining, the sound of the rain was deafening to a degree. But that wasn't the problem, the problem was that Adam had not let her go.
She had felt warmth from Adam's embrace but it was momentary, now she was back to being cold.
She had begun to shiver and was feeling slightly feverish, and as much as she enjoyed how his strong arms circled her, she wasn't enjoying the feeling of the cold seeping down into her bones.
Adam must have noticed Jenna begin to shiver, he stepped back and held her hand tightly in his.
Jenna flinched momentarily before she eased up, his grip was tight and firm, it made her cautious but she calmed down when she realized he wasn't gripping her as tightly as her father did whenever her pulled her behind him.
He led her to where his car was packed, in the drivers seat sat a very displeased Mallory who didn't seem to enjoy the sight of Adam and Jenna holding hands. Amidst the rain Jenna could still see Mallory's eye twitch as her mouth turned down into a scowl.
It was obvious Adam didn't notice it, he opened the back door for Jenna to slip in, Jenna knew a moments panic as she realized she was going to ruin the seats of a very expensive car
"Don't worry about it" Adam reassured Jenna as he gestured for her to go in, "I'd much rather ruin the seats than have you stand any longer under the rain"
Jenna obliged, partly because she couldn't stand the cold but also because she wanted to spite Mallory who was still scowling.
"Where do you want me to drop her off?" Mallory asked, everything about her was screaming hostility and it was obvious to even a blind man that she didn't want Jenna in the car, and most especially she didn't enjoy seeing Jenna cuddled closely with Adam.
"Home" Adam answered as he wrapped a blanket around Jenna. Jenna smiled, it was slow and evil, she enjoyed watching Mallory's eyes twitch from the rearview mirror.
"What's her address?" Mallory asked
"I meant my house" Adam clarified as he snuggled Jenna into him.
There was silence, Mallory didn't say a word and Jenna had to stifle her laughter. Mallory's hands were gripping the steering wheel tightly. It gave Jenna a weird feeling she never knew existed.
Here Mallory was, the perfect example of what every man was. Even to Jenna, Mallory's beauty was stunning, her blonde hair was almost golden and shone brightly under the sun, her blue eyes were bright. She was the complete opposite of Jenna, she was everything Jenna had wished she was.
Mallory reluctantly started the car engine. The drive to Adam's house was awkward, but it was an awkwardness Jenna relished in. Jenna felt in power for the first time in her life, it felt great to know that her actions could finally have an effect on someone other than herself.
Mallory parked the car in front of Adam's house, it made Jenna feel relieved, although she relished in the awkwardness it still made her feel weird.
The rain had reduced to a light drizzle, Mallory opened the boot and jogged to the back to fetch a big black umbrella.
Jenna's side of the door opened and Mallory tilted the umbrella to shield Jenna from the rain, Jenna opened her mouth to speak when the voice cut her off.
"I hope you're not thinking of thanking her" the voice hissed, its displeasure was extremely evident, "this is what she's being paid to do"
Jenna stepped out from the car and marveled at how beautiful Adam's house looked.
A magnificent two story house stood proudly, glistening in the soft light of the setting sun. It's exterior was adorned with a silver finish that seemed to shimmer like the liquid metal under the fading daylight, giving it an almost otherworldly appearance.
The front façade was a masterpiece of modern architecture, with clean lines and large, energy-efficient windows that allowed natural light to flood the interior. The windows were framed in sleek, dark gray trim, providing a striking contrast to the silver exterior.
The entrance was a double door of polished steel, reflecting the colors of the sky and the surrounding landscape. A grand staircase led to up to front entrance, with a glass railing that added to the contemporary allure of the structure.
The well-maintained garden that surrounded the house was a lush green oasis, with carefully manicured shrubs and flowers in full bloom. A winding pathway made of polished stone led through the garden, guiding Jenna to the front door.
As the evening set in, the house came alive with warm, inviting lights that accentuated its modern elegance.
Adam collected the umbrella from Mallory and waved her goodbye, Mallory after handing over the umbrella turned and walked away, her steps dejected.
Adam unlocked the front door and gestured for Jenna to go in. The interior was a marvel of spacious, open designs, with high ceilings and abundance of space. A sense of luxury permeated every room, from the sleek kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances that Adam had fed Jenna in, to the cozy living room with a contemporary fireplace.
Jenna felt unsure about going in, she felt like a misfit, standing in the doorway she felt like an intruder.
"If you walk in, you'll only end up dirtying the place" the voice whispered, "just look around you"
The voice was right, Jenna felt like she'd be leaving behind a puddle of mud and filth with each step she took, she suddenly felt small and dirty as her eyes slowly surveyed the room. She hesitated, the urge to turn around and run taking full control of her mind.
"What's wrong?" Adam asked, his eyes were on Jenna, he was staring so intensely that it made Jenna feel warm from the root of her hair to her toes.
"I-" the words were lodged in Jenna's throat, she didn't want to let him know how small she felt but she couldn't move past it.
There was a moments silence before Jenna felt her feet leave the ground as Adam scooped her up bridal style, she opened her mouth to shriek but her protests were covered by Adam's soft lips on hers.
Jenna was stunned, her eyes were as wide as saucers, her breath had backed up and her brain wasn't processing anything, Adam had just kissed her, he had kissed her, on the lips, it was more of a light peck on her lips but it was still a kiss.
