There are times when my mind is rushed with sinisterity, perhaps something I inherited from blood or something I ended up with when two fucked up people decided to create a new life together. Either way, those senses were alarmed to the highest when I saw Sakura walk into the hospital room with a mocking bouquet of roses in her hands.
"Now, now, don't let yourself be swayed by those thoughts, if you do anything to her in this place; they'll find out in an instant," teasing me further, Mizuki kept smirking at the situation.
"Akira, right?" Walking towards me, Sakura brushed her blonde hair back while shooting me a curious glance. "The guy who's been holed up in that dump next door?"
'So she's really the daughter of the woman I ran into today.' Cursing fate, I let my frustration be known.
"The hell you care?" Hearing my crude response, her eyes widened in shock. "What? Expecting me to be nice while you insult me?"
Visibly taken back, I saw her gulping down on whatever she was feeling. Pursing her lips flat, she kept glaring at me for a while before finally moving forward to set the bouquet by the bedside table.
"Just clean up that damned place, it stinks okay? Besides, I only came here because my mom sent me to pay your bills." With those words, she turned to look at me once more to lay down why she'd come here. "At least try to be grateful, country boy..."
'My mom? Country boy? What the hell is she on about?' Reading my thoughts again, the next thing I heard in my mind was Mizuki's voice.
'I had to call her mother pretending to be your mom. She agreed to pay the damned bill and I told her I'll pay her later.' Although Mizuki's reply cleared some of the doubts there were still a lot of questions floating in my mind.
"Oh and by the way," hearing Sakura's voice again, I brought my attention back to her. Folding her hands while wearing a foul expression, she seemed quite pissed about my previous response to her. "Pay up quick alright? We're not exactly made of money. And why did you even move here if your parents can't afford a simple hospital visit?"
'Tell her there's no good school in your village.' Mizuki advised.
"No good schools back home had to come here for a proper education that amounts to something instead of just a piece of passing paper that gets thrown off by every employer…" At least that's why I joined Hayato High when I applied for her with my previous body.
"Mhm…" Bobbing her head, she finally let down her frown. "Ehhh, whatever. You won't last a day in our school, but suit yourself I guess."
Mocking me once again, she headed right for the door and left without another word. Curling my fingers into a fist, I felt as though I'd missed some kind of opportunity. An opportunity to make her skull eyes pop out of her skull with my bare hands. The very thought of her body going limp, as I crushed her throat with my fingers, had me all jittery with a skin-crawling itch for violence.
"Kimura, Hero, her, and the other girls with her…" Panting once more as my heart pistoned to the flood of memories, I turned towards the phantom alone with me inside the room. "Those fuckers, they-"
"Caused the death of your friend? I know," licking her lips as if she was enjoying the taste of my bloodlust, Mizuki lifted off the ground and flew closer to my body. "I felt everything when you were standing atop the edge of that building. I was there drawn by the odor of your misery, your rage, but most of all, your hopelessness and contempt towards humanity."
"Contempt towards humanity?" Her presumptions, although reasonable for the most part, seemed to have reached too far.
Nodding her head, she placed her hands on my cheeks and caressed them down their length. Suddenly glowing a silver glow, her eyes caught my unaltered attention.
"Mhm, might seem far-fetched for now, but that's the only reason why I chose you, to attain the misery of others, and…" Drawing her hands back, she let her feet back down on the floor before giving me a smile. "Well, there's plenty more reason for me to revive you, but the less you know for now the better it is for me if I'd made a mistake in choosing you after all."
"And what the hell do you want exactly?" Expecting the same cycle of diversion from her, I turned around to throw the flowers brought in by Sakura.
"I want you to make others miserable, feed me their broken heart, and in return I'll help you exact revenge on those who've wronged you," the words of the devil felt tempting, yet not tempting enough to sell my soul just yet.
Grabbing the bouquet in my hand, I walked around the bed to reach the dustbin on the other side. Throwing it in, I turned to face Mizuki with conditions of my own.
"If revenge is all you have to offer, then I'd rather suffer an eternity of pain in a crippled body than hand you the reins to the trajectory of my life," had I agreed to her on her terms, who knows what kind of trap she would've had laying for me, especially after she just admitted to forcing me into the contract while I was dying from the fall.
When I spoke those words, I expected her to freak out or even wave the already signed contract in my face, instead, however, she smiled ear to ear and offered her hand forward as well as one other thing.
"Satori, what if I tell you that I can bring her back to life? Obviously given that you agree to feed me," hearing her mention Satori, I felt a sensitive string being tugged inside my heart.
"Is that even possible? Said yourself you plucked my soul when I died, but Satori has been dead for long already!" I complained, infuriated by the offer.
"I revived you didn't I? I'll find a way," she responded, chuckling to herself.
She obviously knew that I valued her, even so, agreeing to her blinding was not the wisest move possible. For all I know she could've been straight-up lying, but even the slightest prospect of seeing Satori alive wasn't something I could let slip through my fingers.
"I have a condition too," I told her.
"Hmm? Spill it," She spat back.
"You can't lie to me or deceive me in any way, and if you do our contract goes null and void," the moment I laid the condition, I noticed a glint of excitement pop up in her eyes.
"Very well, but remember, you're still an unworthy pawn until you can prove yourself worthy to know the real reason why I revived you," offering her hand again, she patiently waited for me to shake her hand.
"Why can't you just tell me? Besides, I just said you can't lie to me or deceive me," I asked, my hand slowly creeping closer to hers on its own.
"The word you're looking for is omission not lying," moving her hand forward, she shook my hand herself. "Also, remember that girl who was stalking us? There will be plenty more where that came from, but if you're not ready for them; the truth will cause us both more harm than good."
'Crazy people stalking us, and a deal with a demon, all in one day's work…God, nothing could surprise me anymore.' Heaving a sigh, I wrapped my fingers around her hand and agreed to the arrangement.
"Don't make me regret this," I told her.
"Likewise," she replied, still smiling.
