Chapter 61 - Crookshanks and Ron Difficult Emotions

Ginny POV

After the conversation with my brothers I ended up deciding that it wasn't worth leaving the room and going to the Great Hall for dinner, that would just give them the opportunity to surround me again to have another meaningless conversation.

Furthermore, I felt quite satisfied with the way I ended the previous conversation, contradicting and shocking people is a pastime that I perhaps enjoy more than I should.

My roommates came and went from dinner while I went over the chores left over for the holidays.

Of course I was hungry, my last meal had been breakfast before leaving home and it hadn't even been as filling as I would have liked due to the time we lost due to the Daily Prophet headline.

My parents were too shocked by how the situation had been described and my father looked directly at me for an explanation. I knew that at some point something like this would happen, but I didn't expect it to happen so quickly.

I had to explain to my parents what I knew about the Bulstrodes, but in the end they didn't seem to understand. My still reluctant father again agreed to the request I had made.

They are traditional in their views, even if they aren't part of the pureblood supremacy bullshit.

My head was swimming too far away from the subject at hand, my work was ready and all I needed to do was hand it in, I was just reviewing it due to a lack of things to do.

But hunger made me think too much and I went back to what happened in the morning.

I put my things away and lay in bed trying to sleep to forget all this.

It took me a while to sleep, but I finally did. Unfortunately my sleep didn't last long, soon screams filled the Gryffindor Tower waking everyone up.

I needed to learn the runes that Kai used in his room or at least the Spells so that no one would bother me when I was sleeping.

I got up in a bad mood and with heavy steps I went to the common room to find out what was happening. As soon as I left the room I was able to identify the screams to make my mood even worse, maybe I needed to eat something to calm down because the way I was going I was going to end up throwing something at Ron's head.

My 'dear' brother was screaming and running in the common room while kicking and tripping along the way.

Behind him, the monster he was running away from was none other than an orange cat.

"Someone catch this cat before this idiot destroys the common room!" – someone shouted.

I took a deep breath.

Going down the stairs I went towards the cat and picked him up easily, maybe he understood that he couldn't gain from the number of people around him.

"Whose cat is this?" – I asked looking at the people around me.

Everyone also started looking for who would be the owner.

So far we didn't have any cats in the tower, I was wondering who had brought one from home after the holiday.

No one spoke out about owning the cat.

Parvati was making a face as if she knew something.

Lavender nudged her to speak.

"I think this is Crookshanks, Granger's cat. I saw him once when I visited my sister in the Ravenclaw common room." – she said uncertainly.

If what she said was true to complicate things, it was the middle of the night and we couldn't return the cat. I was tempted to just get him out of the common room.

I made to give her the cat so she could return it in the morning, but I was met with a show of hands in denial.

"I… I'm allergic to cats." – said Parvati, but it seemed like a clear excuse for not needing to get involved in the situation.

I couldn't help but snort when I heard that.

"Granger?" – I heard Ron's weak voice asking.

By now he was out of breath after the "chase" he suffered.

When I turned to him, I saw conflict wash over his face.

I knew that he and Granger had shared a cabin for a few minutes on the Hogwarts Express when they traveled for the first time in their first year. Fred and George often teased him due to his disappointment that she was part of Ravenclaw and not Gryffindor.

Clearly he had a crush on her, but with his standard behavior it was extremely difficult for him to approach her, much less for her to pay attention to him.

I think the only time he managed to talk to her was when he asked for help with his studies, but soon after the first study session she gave up and her words hurt him deeply.

'I don't think this will work, you spend more time looking at me than studying and I'm not interested in someone who doesn't take their studies seriously.'

Those were her words to him.

"How can she be the owner of this monster?" – asked Ron confused.

At that moment I noticed that Ron was carrying Scrabbers in his arms.

The scenario was set in my mind.

Crookshanks somehow got into the common room and must have smelled Scrabbers and went after him. With everyone asleep, he must have managed to sneak into Ron's room and jump on him while trying to catch Scrabbers.

My brother, as little scandalous as he is, ran out of his room screaming and ended up waking everyone up.

His expression was desolate, it was as if the world was conspiring so that he could never be close to her.

I felt a little sorry for him knowing that this crush would never have the chance to become anything more than that. But as I was holding the cat I couldn't go to him and comfort him.

Percy took the lead to disperse the students.

"Guys, the confusion has already been resolved. Go back to the dorms because most of you have classes tomorrow." – he asked authoritatively,

Even though it was his job as Perfect, he let that power go to his head a lot.

I went back to my room with the cat on my lap, not knowing what to do with it.

I put him on the bed and lay down again.

Crookshanks came to my chest and lay down next to me.

I didn't know if I liked it or not, but I know it seemed to calm me down and I fell asleep without even realizing it.

When the day dawned my first sight was the cat's orange fur, something I was basically used to since my hair wasn't that different from his fur.

I got out of bed and got ready.

With the bag with my books on my shoulder, I took Crookshanks in my arms and headed towards the entrance to the Ravenclaw common room.

As I was approaching I found Granger in the hallway going to the Great Hall for breakfast.

"Crookshanks?" – she asked confused.

She came towards me in a hurry, uncomfortable that someone else was carrying her cat.

"What are you doing with him?" – she asked, a little anxious and aggressive.

I took a deep breath.

Granger was known for always seeming to be bossing people around her. A somewhat difficult personality to deal with, especially when she is probably the best student in the entire castle.

"He entered the Gryffindor common room and chased my brother's rat, which ended up waking everyone up in the early hours of the morning. I kept him in my room so we wouldn't have any more problems and I was looking for you to give him back." – I said, passing the cat to her.

She was a little embarrassed by the situation.

"Sorry, I'll make sure he doesn't do that again." – she said in an apologetic tone.

I nodded at her.

Kai might be interested in her, but I didn't see how that could work.

She was too full of herself.
