Then, just as Myra was focused on dispatching one of the creatures, a massive snake-like beast lunged at her from a hidden vantage. Dylan's breath hitched as the creature shot forward, but before it could reach her, her light shield flickered to life, encasing her in a protective energy bubble.
Not that it needed to.
Dylan was faster. A tendril of shadow burst forth from where he stood, skewering the beast mid-air and slamming it to the ground. The creature let out a dying screech before falling silent.
Myra's head snapped toward the direction of the shadow's movement, her eyes scanning the darkness. She lowered her hands, her glowing shield dimming slightly as her gaze locked onto him. He hadn't expected her to find him so quickly, but of course she would.
"Dylan," she mouthed, her lips forming the word as if in a trance.
