Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 - Crimson Moon System

Suddenly seeing some screen floating in front of his eyes startled Ivar a little, "The fuck?!"

Seeing him like this made Selene giggle, "Cool, right? I've been thinking about a good way to share information and allow you to view your options regarding the lineage upgrades.

So when I came across a thing called 'systems' in this world's literature, I thought that was a decent implementation of what I wanted.

Oh, by the way, this world is called 'Earth', the more you know!"

Ivar raised an eyebrow in astonishment at the window with his information in it, "Alright, so how does this work? How do you get those numbers? And what are these 'additional skills'?"

Selene looked excited about explaining her work as she suddenly stood up from Ivar's lap, and the tight clothing she had been wearing suddenly changed to a striped blazer featuring plenty of cleavage, with a short skirt and small glasses on her face.

As she was about to answer his questions, Ivar suddenly stuck up his hand, "Hold up. What the fuck did you just do with your clothing?"

Selene grinned and chuckled, "Hehehe, I've learned a lot about this world, and this outfit is what they consider a 'sexy teacher.' Do you like it?"

Without actually having lived in this society all his life, the idea of a sexy teacher in this outfit didn't do that much for him. Still, he didn't dislike the outfit itself.

So he chuckled, "You seem to be enjoying this world quite a bit. But yes, I personally preferred your previous outfit, but this one's not bad either. You look like an authority figure I want to humble."

Selene grinned, "Oh? Well, maybe I'll let you try sometime."

She then pushed her glasses further up her nose before she continued, "Anyway, let me answer your questions. The physical stats I get from comparing your current strength to a regular soldier-level qhanrid. And that is how I will judge any other soldier-level beings in the future aswell.

So, since I judged your agility to be 20, that means your top speed in wolf form is about twice as fast as a regular qhanrid soldier.

In the future, I will judge warrior-level beings by comparing them to a regular qhanrid warrior. Including you when you reach that level.

The other stats are somewhat open to interpretation, however.

I'm afraid I've simply not spent enough time observing other mortals to get an accurate reading of your charm compared to others.

The additional skills are those that belong to you but did not come from your transformations. For example, I put 'increased speed' next to the Gale Wolf transformation, as that is the skill you gain from that transformation.

'Selective shift' basically means the ability to shift only parts of your body, the ability I gave you when we first arrived. 'Pheromones,' meanwhile, is the ability I gave you earlier."

She started smirking a little, "That ability will increase other's sexual arousal towards you while also making it slightly easier to persuade them of something. I figured it would come in handy when that woman wakes up.

As for how it all works, you can simply dismiss and summon that window with your thoughts. You can also focus on another person while trying to summon that window, and I'll use my senses to scan them and give you their status screen based on what I can read on them.

Try it out on that unconscious woman."

Intrigued, both by this new pheromone ability and the system itself, Ivar did as Selene said and looked at the woman on the bed as he focused on trying to summon the status window. It wasn't long before it appeared.

Selene continued, explaining, "As you can see, I can scan her physical attributes but not read her mind, so I don't know her name. I told you earlier how she seems to be human with something more; well, those question marks by species represent that something more.

I also left transformations open, despite the fact it should be Gale Wolf since I don't know if the 'something more' will affect her transformation."

Having finished her explanation, Selene adjusted her glasses again and looked proud as if waiting for praise.

Ivar was somewhat astonished at all this as he suddenly looked at Selene and said, "You know, I misjudged you."

Not exactly receiving the praise she expected, Selene looked at Ivar, "Eh?"

Ivar grinned, "Well, you seemed a little 'overly enthusiastic' back on Máni. I really thought you were going to be a handful, constantly trying to force your will on me and just generally annoy me."

He stood up before the somewhat offended-looking Selene could speak, and he patted her head, "But you know what, that was unfair of me. You've been an amazing help so far and very accommodating, too. You're a good girl."

Selene actually became somewhat red, despite her generally flirty attitude, as she quickly retreated and pointed at Ivar frantically, "Yo- You, hands off! I'm your goddess! I don't need nor want your approval!"

Ivar grinned, enjoying this new look on his companion goddess, "Didn't I tell you before? You are a goddess, not my goddess. Besides, you definitely looked awfully proud earlier. Are you sure you weren't looking for some praise?"

Selene snorted in response, "Hmpf, quite sure. Now be quiet; I still need to tell you how to check your possible upgrades."

Seemingly wanting to keep a little distance from Ivar right now, despite the fact her appearance was little more than an illusion, Selene stayed where she was as she continued her explanation.

"Just like before, you can focus your thoughts on summoning what I've called 'the store', where you will see the amount of energy I have available, the available upgrades to your lineage I can provide, and the energy they cost."

Still smiling, glad Selene was easier to get along with than he initially suspected, Ivar did as she described and summoned the store.

In front of him, another screen appeared, at the top of which was the number six, followed by the phrase 'Awesome Goddess Energy', causing Ivar to roll his eyes, but he decided he had already teased her enough for now, so he let it go.

There seemed to be two sections to this store, 'transformations' and 'additional skills.' He started scrolling through the options and discovered many interesting things among the additional skills.

The transformations, meanwhile, had plenty of therian types he recognised, but there were a few of them that caught his eye specifically.

He looked at Selene and asked, "There's actually dragonkin transformations available? I thought they died out more than a thousand years ago!"

Dragonkin had been the undisputed rulers of the therians until relentless hunting by the vampyrs had caused the dragonkin therians to go extinct, which was still a major point of contention between the two races, despite the qhanrid threat.

Selene shrugged, "They did, but their genetic code is still locked inside the progenitor lineage you possess and can thus be unlocked for you.

Considering their power and rarity, though, they are difficult to unlock and thus expensive. Plus, the more you unlock, the more everything else will cost. So you can save for the dragonkin now or later, but later, they will cost even more.

I think you should wait, though. There are plenty of powerful skills and transformations that cost less energy and would be more useful in the short term."

While Ivar was excited about gaining the legendary powers of dragonkin, he knew Selene was right, so he sighed and put it out of his mind for now.

After clearing his head from thoughts about dragonkin, he raised an eyebrow, "By the way, I don't see a buy option or anything here; how do I actually unlock something?"

This question seemed to offend Selene as she stomped closer and hit Ivar on the head, "By asking me, you idiot! This system is supposed to make things easier for both of us, not replace me!

I'm not going anywhere, you hear!? You have the privilege of being stuck with me!"

Ivar chuckled and rubbed his head, "Sorry, sorry. I was just lost in your amazing system for a moment."

These words seemed to quickly calm Selene down as she puffed up her chest and said, "Hmpf, that's right! And don't you forget it!"

Ivar smirked and realised this goddess wasn't so hard to handle. She may be 3,000 years old, but she clearly had minimal experience in dealing with other people—especially people like him, who had a way with words, even if he preferred violence.

Ivar asked, "So, did you think of a name for this so-called system?"

Selene immediately regained her enthusiasm and said, "Of course I did! Since I am the goddess of the crimson moon, I call it the 'Crimson Moon System.'"
