Chereads / The Hunted Luna / Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Her stories didn't add up, but he'd decided to work with the little she was willing to share. Selene had withheld some details from him but he'd been determined to find out. He sensed fear when she stopped Maya from speaking. Whatever she was hiding scared her. Was it really the vampire hunters? Or was it something else? .

Lyle took them as the alpha had instructed and thirty minutes later he could feel him as he neared. He walked in with a worried look on his face, Lucas straightened himself on the couch when the gamma approached.

"What bothers you?" He asked.

"You bother me alpha. You've been acting all strange and weird since you saw them. And don't think I do not sense your mood swings. Even the others can sense you from a mile away." He huffed with exasperation.

He exhaled, plopping back on the couch. "I don't even know where to start from."

"Anywhere would do."

Sighing, he continued on. "Something terrible has struck me."

"What is it?! Stop beating about the bush and tell me!." He nearly shouted from an overly excess amount of worry.

"Okay! Okay!! I will. But first, I need both Byron and Jessie here. I need to hear the opinions of my betas and gamma on the issue at hand."

"Okay." He replied.

He groaned, this time, squeezing his eyes shut. " Have you done what I asked?"

"I have. Blue would look after them and provide them with the necessities."

"Good. I do not like the silver collar on their necks. Isn't there a way to keep them without the collar?"

Lyle glaced at Lucas with a bewildered look on his face. Doubting the alpha's sanity.

" You do know antherions and werepanthers are very tricky, fast and vicious. I was only able to bring them here without any of my men losing any body parts because they were weak and wounded. Take off that collar and half of the wolves would be lethargic or probably dismembered."

That was true. They were both deadly and lethal. And from the little he'd seen, she hadn't seemed to give a fuck about him or any mate bond. Knowing she would have gladly taken off my head if given the chance had him feeling uneasy. But as much he was willing to meet her wolf he had to tame her first.

"We've never treated anyone caught in our borders will this much hospitality. We either kill them if they are spies or send them away. Why keep them anyways? If they were being chased by hunters then they're trouble for us. We cannot get in the middle of a fight with hunters, antherions and werepanthers. I think we should send them away."

"We cannot send them away yet. First, I need every wolves at the border to be alert. If they sight anything strange– or any hunters to be precise, they should let us know. And, take them out of the cell. Let Blue and two other trusted wolves keep an eye on them."

Lyle understood what the alpha had meant by trusted wolves. The clan which had looked like it was united to the other clan had been divided, and deep down, they all knew. The alpha queen, his mother had those who listened to her every beck and call while he's had his.

Never had there been two alphas ruling one tribe at once but his mother's refusal to step down had caused a rift in the pack, mother or not, the alpha had been prepared to get back what had rightfully been his to begin with. His mother took on the title of the first female alpha in all the seven clan's, killing those who stood in her way or objected her rules.

The death of his father had spelled doom for the clan with his mother knowing a female without a mate was looked down upon, she'd seized the title before being asked to step down or killed, like she'd eagerly prepared for his father's death. The moment he did, she exiled his brother, the elders and the sentinels, immediately rising from luna to alpha.

He bowed courteously, " okay alpha. But, where should I put them?"

"With Blue."

Lucas finally managed to drag himself off the couch, "get the other two and meet me later tonight at the arena. There should be safe. What I'm going to discuss with all of you, no one else must know. Not even mother. Make sure none of her wolves are following you before coming."

"Okay Alpha."

          ™™™~~~~~~~

As they strutted back to the alpha's quarters, Lucas spoke, breaking the silence that hung endlessly in the air.

" Have you seen Freya since you returned?" He inquired

He heaved a burdened sigh, "I haven't. My work isn't done yet. You need me, the other wolves need me, I need to be at the–"

"-Lyle" he cut in, "go be with her. You miss her, she misses you. It's been nearly two months now. She needs you."

"I can't....I cannot face her." He stopped walking, his shoulders sagging with guilt. "Not after what happened."

"It isn't your fault. None of it is. No one knew she was pregnant except mother. And she still insisted on turning you rogue unless you rejected her as mate. It's all in the past. You're together now, instead of letting the past weigh you both down, go home. Go be with your woman. And do not return until nightfall." Lucas concluded before gently giving him a pat on the shoulders.

"But–" he tried to protest and I hurriedly cut him off.

"It's an order, from your alpha."

He puffed anxiously. " Yes alpha."

Both males turned the opposite direction, one heading over to claim his woman and the other Unsure of how to face his betrothed. Now that he'd seen his mate, going back to his room and walking in on the sights of Thalia naked in his bed or of her in a see through lace robe with nothing underneath didn't seem to excite him anymore.

Now his mind and thoughts were preoccupied with the thoughts of a mate and how to claim every inch of her. Realizing he had to come up with a plan to put him out of his misery.

💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞

Lyle walked towards the gamma's quarters with an heavy heart. Unsure of what his fate would be once his mate sets her eyes on him. He'd missed her. After she'd lost their pup, he could no longer face her. He distanced himself from her. To wallow in agony and sorrow.

He couldn't console her. She was pained, but her pains were nothing compared to his. First, she hadn't informed him of her pregnancy. If she had, he wouldn't have made the rash decision of leaving. He loved her–yes. But he'd dreaded the thoughts of being turned rogue. Even she would have wanted to kill him.

Secondly, her mother was the cause of their loss. She was the reason for their young pup's demise. She knew she had his child even after they'd marked and mated without her consent, she still hoped their was a way to end their mate bond and give her to another.

If it hadn't been for the miscarriage and Lucas's intervention, he would have left the pack and would have killed himself somewhere. He hated her enough to harbour the thoughts of killing her but, he couldn't. She was the mother of his mate and his alpha.

As he neared, his heartbeat spiked and the door swung open. Her magnificent chestnut–brown eyes mirroring her pain as she ran towards him, wrapping him up in a warm embrace. He gasped as their bodies made contact, her scent filling his senses to the brim. He tried to find words but words failed him.

"Say nothing. Just don't leave. Please." Her thoughts wafted into his mind. Her tears slowly drenched his shirt.

"I'm–i'm sorry." He finally got the words out.

"No! I should be the one to apologise." She protested.

His hands gripped her fragile waist, pulling her more closer to him as a tear rolled down his cheek.

"I shouldn't have left you alone that way. I was–i was angry, I was hurt, I was pained, I was sad." He countered.

For nearly a whole minute, they both continued to apologise to each other. Each pouring out their pains with tears and words.

After they'd both calmed, he pulled her gently away from him, his eyes bore deep into hers as he spoke.

"What say you, we make new happy memories?" He asked.

"Yes! I would love that." She giggled excitedly.

He flashed her a seductive smile that always made her heart flip a million times in her chest. He pulled her towards him, his lips at her ears, his hot breath fanning her neck.

"I can't wait to have you on all fours, while I slowly explore you from behind."

"Oh!" She gasped, a low moan of needs and wants slipped her lips.

And that was all the reply he'd needed. He scooped her off the floor. He felt relieved after finally letting out his pain. Sure, they would forever remember their lost pup. But for now, all they needed was each other. All he needed was her. He couldn't wait to hear her little pleas of ecstasy. All he needed was now. All he needed was burying himself inside of her. So much they could do before nightfall.
