Chapter 9 - A change in Sianna

Lawson Briggs law firm.

Brenda arrived at her office and discovered a letter on her desk. She took the letter and opened it, but after only reading one line, she closed it again and crumpled it.

She had been receiving such letters for a while now, and they were really irritating her. She glared at the letter and ripped it apart without looking at the sender's name before throwing it away.

"That was harsh," a voice said behind her.

She did not need to turn to see who it was because the person was the last person she wanted to see. She sat down after placing her bag on her chair.

"You know, I am very upset about all the attention you are getting from all of our male colleagues; what are you? a princess from Disney land who believes everyone wants to court you." The girl taunted.

"I am not you, Heather; please do not be so cheap. It is not my fault that you do not meet their expectations or appear unappealing in their eyes," Brenda said, glancing at the brunette standing beside her out of the corner of her eye.

Heather smiled, but it did not reach her eyes. In her heart, she has fantasized about doing various things to Brenda. Nobody has ever won an argument with Brenda, and the woman has been snarky and rude to her since she first arrived at work.

Brenda treated Heather as if she were air, putting on her earpods and beginning to work on her computer. Heather huffed and walked away, irritated. Brenda watched her leave before sneering and shifting her gaze to the young man who had come to stand beside her, holding a box.

He was of average height, with brown short hair and brown eyes, and his appearance was passable.

She looked at him for two seconds before turning her attention to her computer.

The guy appeared to realize that he was being rude by staring at her, and he quickly apologized by saying,

"I apologize; I was taken aback after seeing you. You do not match the description I was given."

"What description were you given? Is it an ugly grumpy witch?" Brenda asked, drawing her gaze back to him.

She realized she had guessed correctly when the guy's eyes widened for a second. She sighed and motioned for the man to leave.

"I am Thomas Park, your assistant," the man introduced himself immediately seeing as the woman is not interested in conversing with him.

"I never asked for an assistant, and don't you think it will be bad for you to work with an old witch like myself?"

"You are not a witch; you are far from it. I say you are a fairy." The man was quick to stand up for her. His expression was serious and stiff that Brenda had to laugh to ease him.

"Do not try to footlick me, okay. I have only a few rules. 1. Do not irritate me. 2. Do not get in my way 3. I do not want to see you slacking or accepting bribes 4. "Do not ever..ever.. fall for me, and 5. Follow the rules diligently alright," Brenda said, going over her list of rules, the fourth which left the guy speechless.

Why would he fall for her? he reasoned. But then he shook his head as his mind told him it was possible. Brenda was a very beautiful lady with starry-like eyes that spoke volumes of her personality.

'It might be possible,' he reasoned 'but I won't let it happen, office romance is disgusting' Although he felt this way, he did not show it in his expression and simply agreed and promised to do as told.

He was even more surprised when Brenda made him sign an agreement. After that, she introduced herself and assigned him a job.

Louise arrived to pick up his daughter from school just as it was closing. He found his daughter and her new doctor sitting under a large tree. They were not alone, as they were surrounded by other children.

This was his first time seeing his daughter around other kids, without sitting like a stone.

The kids were listening to Sonya sing, and he did not interrupt them even as he approached. His gaze was drawn to the woman who had only appeared a few days before but had already caused a ripple effect in his and his daughter's lives.

He appeared to have found peace, partly because his long-held dream of getting the best treatment for his daughter was being realized, and partly because he felt a strong connection with the doctor.

He sent someone to look into her, because he felt something did not seem to add up. He was certain he had met her somewhere, but he could not recall.

The girl was said to have studied abroad as a doctor and returned to work in her parents' hospital. She went on to travel again and has only recently returned.

The problem was that the Sonya in his head was Sonya DeVille rather than Sonya Aquila. He is unsure of where he made a mistake.

He could not recall much of his past due to an incident, but after meeting her, he appeared to be recollecting. He wanted to ask for her help, but he could not bring himself to do so, especially since he sensed the woman was attempting to distance herself from him.

Sonya finished the song, and the kids applauded her. She felt someone staring at her and turned to see who it was.

When she looked at Louise, her heart skipped a beat unconsciously.

In his gray suit, the man exuded sophistication and elegance. His coffee brown hair was combed back. He looked stunning, and nothing about him was out of place.

Sonya blinked and looked away, realizing she had been staring at him for longer than usual.

"Good afternoon, Mr Cole. I see you are here to pick up Sianna," she said, calming her nerves with a confident tone.

Louise hummed and gave a nod. He stretched his arms wide, waiting for his daughter to approach him, but she only looked at Sonya, as if asking for permission.

Her actions appalled Louise, and Sonya was not sure whether to cry or laugh at the girl's sudden attitude.

"What are you doing, Sianna? Go hug your papa," Sonya nervously laughed as she gently pushed Sianna to meet her father.

She averted her gaze from Louise's perplexed expression. She does not want to get into a misunderstanding with Louise.

She felt her chest tighten as she saw his eyes filled with affection and adoration for his child.

However She smiled at Sianna and said, "I will be leaving now, Sia; see you next time alright."

Sianna nodded, and Sonya turned on her heels to walk away, but Louise stopped her.

He handed Sianna over to Knorr who had followed behind him, before approaching Sonya. With his hands in his pocket, he stood before Sonya, his height towering over her.

"I apologize for Sianna's earlier behavior; I am not sure why she acted that way, but believe me, I am not doing anything wrong to her," Sonya hurriedly explained to clear any possible misunderstanding.

Louise looked at her for a few seconds before he asked, "Did you ever study at Brainstorm College or somewhere in H country?"

Sonya's heart skipped a beat as she met Louise's probing gaze, and she wanted to disappear from there. However, she gave a light smile and shook her head.

"No, I didn't. Why do you ask?" She inquired, wanting to know if he remembered her.

"Nothing, thank you," Louise said, turning and walking away, leaving Sonya stunned by his question.

She dismissed the children and remained seated, her gaze fixed on nothing in particular.

"Why aren't you leaving?" Sonya jolted and turned around to see Louise behind her.

"I thought you left," Sonya said, standing up. She cast a quick glance behind him before asking, "Where is Sianna?"

"In the car," he replied, and walked up to stand in front of her. "I believe there are some things you want to know about Sianna," he said, concealing his hands in his pockets. He noticed Sonya nodding her head and offered.

"Come then, Sianna wants some cakes and ice cream; we can talk while she is busy." His tone seemed casual, but he was not feeling well. He wanted to clear up some questions about Sonya so he could sleep peacefully.

He used Sianna as an excuse because he knew Sonya would leave once he proposed meeting with her privately.

"Where are we going then?" she inquired, picking up her wallet. She walked a step behind him, and no matter how slowly Louise walked, she did the same.

"It appears you do not like me very much, Ms Sonya," he said matter of factly as he walked forward.

Sonya pursed her lips before opening them and saying, "I do not want any rumors."
