Su Hui and Zhuo Hang nearly jumped in surprise, quickly turning around to see a kind-looking old man. His presence was friendly, but the silent emergence behind them was truly unnerving.
A gust of wind chilled them to the bone, stiffening their bodies. Something about this seemingly harmless old man was far from ordinary.
Regaining her composure, Su Hui politely greeted, "Hello, sir. Our car broke down so we had to stop by the roadside. We have nowhere else to go and happened to come here. I suppose you accept visitors from outside?"
The old man shook his head, "No worries, we're very hospitable here."
"That's a relief!" Su Hui and Zhuo Hang pretended to be overjoyed, but they kept their guards up against the old man.
The old man, cordial and affectionate, added: "Stay here tonight. It's a wedding celebration in our town. You're both welcome to join." Then he walked past Su Hui and Zhuo Hang.
They exchanged glances before following the old man, curious about his intentions.
