Early in the morning, Xu Xiaoyan was wondering why Yan Fei wasn't lounging around her as usual. From the next room, she heard Yan Fei call out from the kitchen, "Wake up, sweetheart! I caught something fun for you last night!"
The girl was quick. As soon as she got out of bed, she saw a small cage at the door, with seven tiny hedgehogs - two big, five small - quietly moving about.
"Hedgehogs!" It was too apparent for anyone to miss. "Why on earth would you catch hedgehogs? They'll need feeding. They'd be better off in the wild!"
Yan Fei had a coherent explanation, "If spotted outside, they'd be captured anyway. They're rare around here. I'm actually protecting them. We're not short of food for them. They'd have more fun being fed by us than rummaging in the wild."
