As it turns out, the gathering was well worth it. Not only did I get to meet so many seniors, but I also picked up quite a bit of 'new knowledge.' Even if it's not immediately useful, there's at least one thing I can count on—if I'm ever in the area where these seniors are, I can just make a call and surely get a meal with them without any fuss.
But the most valuable piece of advice came at the very end.
When the party was over and everyone was leaving, Wang Jiuming, as the local host, took it upon himself to warn everyone, "Classes have just started today, and there are a lot of people out eating and drinking tonight, so there might be traffic police checking vehicles. Everyone, be careful!"
He was absolutely right. The location of the gathering was in a busy area, and just standing at the hotel entrance, you could see police cars with flashing red lights at the distant intersection.
