After having spent the time of a meal, Luo'er had finally managed to cobble the team together. However, not long after, a test for the team arrived.
As prospective military personnel who would soon be engaged in combat, Haiya Academy has always focused on cultivating the military skills of the Subspecies to ensure they can quickly adapt to military life after leaving the academy. In some respects, Haiya Academy is a quasi-military institution, especially for the first batch of freshmen, whose ultimate career choice is the military, so the examination of their military competencies is particularly strict.
On top of modern Earth military training, they are also required to learn horseback riding, archery, Otherworld languages, and even magic. Because Earth people are unable to adapt to the environment of the Otherworld, they will serve as a critical force extending the country's influence into the Otherworld.
Then came the day of the first test after the team was formed, a tactical test on urban anti-terror warfare to assess teamwork and coordination among the team memebers.
At nine in the morning, Luo'er and his team were already dressed in urban camouflage uniforms with tactical vests, standing in the drill ground with the other teams, waiting for the instructor's speech. The chief instructor supervising the test was Wang Xu. It was drizzling in the morning, but he still seemed to feel hot, standing with his sleeves rolled up and hands behind his back while giving a speech on the platform.
After the speech, the teams would take the test one by one according to the roll. When Wang Xu announced the end of the meeting, Luo'er breathed a sigh of relief. He looked at his teammates, uncertain whether they were dependable, and he looked deeply worried.
"What's worrying you? You look so troubled." Wang Xu walked over to him and asked with a smile seeing his worried expression.
"Nothing," Luo'er said lightly.
"These are your teammates, right?" Wang Xu glanced at the people around him. Hu Daoke was bent over, earnestly explaining the techniques of rifle use to Tangmo who, with a turn of her rifle, pointed it directly at him, startling him even though there was no magazine in it. Cheng Ziang was standing with a serious face and folded arms, as if wronged by everyone he saw, while the usually reliable Baiyue was nowhere to be found. Luo'er looked helplessly at this group, not feeling optimistic about the upcoming test.
"Don't worry, it's just a test, and it won't count towards your final score," Wang Xu patted his shoulder to comfort him, then turned around to test the other teams. Luo'er watched as the teams entered the test area one by one, soon the sounds of gunfire started to echo. The test environment, built with sandbags and plyboards, simulated urban street fighting and indoor areas, and had pop-up targets. The test mission was to pass through the contested streets and rescue hostages from the building. If a target popped up and wasn't knocked down in three seconds, it was considered as one team member "dead".
Luo'er walked over to Cheng Ziang who was standing with his arms folded, quietly watching the teams entering the test ground. Upon hearing Luo'er's footsteps, he turned to look at him but didn't say a word, merely continued watching the teams with a still gaze.
In a short while, Baiyue, as if appearing from nowhere, was standing silently next to Luo'er. Luo'er turned to look at her. Her oversized hat had been replaced with a Kefra helmet. Because of her petite frame, she looked rather comic wearing the large helmet, with only her eyes visible below its brim. Seeing her like this, Luo'er subconsciously turned to look at Tangmo and Hu Daoke. Hu Daoke was struggling to fit the helmet on Tangmo, who looked even more ludicrous. The enormous helmet almost blocked her sight completely, severely obstructing her vision. Hu Daoke was trying to adjust the depth of her helmet.
After more than an hour of incessant gunfire, it was almost Luo'er's team's turn. Luo'er picked up an 03 rifle from the table, checked its safety, held it, then walked over to Tangmo and said: "Sister Moumou, we're up next."
"Huh, are we?" Tangmo, holding her helmet, responded. After Hu Daoke's adjustments, her eyes were now visible.
After steadying her helmet, Tangmo picked up a submachine gun and a handgun from the weapons point. For her, using a rifle was indeed challenging, so she decided to switch to a submachine gun. However, Baiyue chose an old 88-style sniper rifle produced in the last century. Luo'er found it strange that a sniper rifle was provided for an indoor combat test because such an environment limited the use of sniper rifles.
After choosing her weapon, Tangmo just stood there holding her gun, seemingly unsure what to do next. Luo'er couldn't help but remind her, "Sister Moumou, you need to check the gun…"
"Huh?" Tangmo blinked in surprise and then took the submachine gun to check its safety. Although she seemed awkward and clumsy, since she had been familiarizing herself with firearms since her first year of high school, she knew her way around the weapon.
"Notify everyone to check their guns…" Luo'er said quietly, knowing that normally everyone spontaneously checks their guns after picking them up but as the team captain, he needed to give this instruction.
"Oh, right," Tangmo remembered and then yelled out, "Everyone, check your guns!"
Watching everyone begin to check their guns, Luo'er heaved a sigh of relief. Even though he'd already done that, he still cooperated and checked it once again for good measure.
Another round of intense gunfire, and another team completed their test. Now, it was Luo'er's team's turn. Taking the cartridge filled with bullets from the test instructor, the team officially entered the test field. The test field had a fifty-meter-long street with sandbags and cars made out of plyboard littered around. The central point of the street was a two-story building. Their mission was to cross the street and storm the building to rescue the hostages.
