Yu Qinqin had always antagonized Yu Jingrong ever since they were young. Yu Jingrong's response to her behavior usually took one of two forms: either put up with it or respond brutally.
Under the current circumstances, all Yu Jingrong could do was bear with it for now, especially given the presence of the ever-troublemaking Ji Duoduo.
Ignoring her, Yu Jingrong walked over to Yu Chenxi, giving him a faint smile, "Brother, I am here to take you home. Let's go back. Mom is waiting for us at home."
Yu Chenxi glared at her, his face flushed with anger, but he withdrew his arm from Ji Duoduo's grasp. Despite his anger, it was clear that he was willing to go home with Yu Jingrong.
With his tacit consent, Yu Jingrong said to Old Master Yu, "Grandpa, I am taking my brother home now. We will come to visit you again next time."
Old Master Yu studied him, squinting his eyes. Yet he didn't say anything, merely nodding his head.
However, Yu Qinqin did not seem ready to let her off the hook so easily. She stepped in front of Yu Jingrong and Yu Chenxi, "Yu Jingrong, don't think you're off the hook just because you're leaving. Let's make things clear. Are you planning to marry Li Chengyun as well?"
Marry Li Chengyun?? Yu Jingrong sneered in her heart. She had genuinely considered that before - marrying him, having his children, living a happy life together. But now, she didn't want to marry Li Chengyun at all.
However, she wanted to know the origins of that phoenix jade carving, and why it, despite being clearly shattered before, now reappeared in perfect condition.
Currently, the only one who knew this secret was Li Chengyun. But he had said that this was an engagement gift, and he would only tell its secrets to his wife.
So even though she didn't want to, she couldn't outright refuse.
If she couldn't endure Yu Qinqin, then her only choice was to be ruthless.
She looked at Yu Qinqin, her voice casual as she asked, "By what right are you questioning me about this?"
Yu Qinqin coldly responded, "Now that Li Chengyun has brought up betrothal to the Yu Family, it's clear he's planning to marry a daughter of the Yu family. Is my status as the first granddaughter of the Yu family sufficient?"
Yu Jingrong looked at her, a pitying smile on her face. "Who knows? Isn't it up to Li Chengyun to decide whether it's enough or not?"
Then, she averted her gaze, signaling that she didn't want to waste any more words on this.
Yet, Yu Qinqin clearly recognized the sarcasm and scorn in her words and expression. It was clear what Yu Jingrong was trying to convey: had Li Chengyun been interested in you, he wouldn't have rejected you outright just now.
Subconsciously, she tightened her fists. In the past, her father propped up the entire Yu family, enabling Yu Jingrong to converse with her so leisurely. Even when she knew the casualness masked sarcasm, she still had to give in a bit, and could only vent her anger behind closed doors.
But things were different now. Now, her father held the reins of the Yu family. Why should she still have to cater to Yu Jingrong's whims?
