Not far away, a man dressed in a black, tight-fitting leather jacket was tightly bound to a wooden chair with iron chains. He hung his head low, his face swollen and bruised beyond recognition, and the blood seeping from his body lent another layer of bloodstench to the already musty air.
It seemed that before Samuel's arrival, the man had already endured severe torture.
With Samuel Johnson's entrance, the people in the basement all assumed a respectful demeanor; one of them stepped forward and said, "Mr. Johnson, should we wake him up?"
Samuel nodded, then walked with Joy Parker to the unconscious man.
A bucket of ice water was poured over him, causing the unconscious man to shiver and groan indistinctly as he came to. Samuel reached out, grabbed his wet, short hair, and lifted his face, turning to Joy and asking, "Do you recognize him?"
