The man seemed to sigh, a hint of helplessness in his manner, as he asked, "Miss Smith, are you trying to seduce me?"
Amanda Smith's face turned red, and she was so embarrassed that she didn't know what to say. She straightened up and kicked aside the little stone that had just tripped up her shoe, her face flushed and flustered as she stammered, "Sor… sorry, I really just…"
She didn't even know how to finish her explanation.
The man sighed again, and Amanda's embarrassment deepened. She hung her head, at a loss for words.
She had not noticed any stones when she had come down, but who would have thought that as soon as her foot touched the ground, a stone would roll her way? She was starting to suspect it was some cosmic prank, just so she would make a fool of herself in front of Samuel Johnson.
