Amanda Smith saw that she had finished eating, and gently set down her teacup, saying to Joy Parker, "I should be going back now. Thank you, Miss Parker, for your hospitality."
Her tone was polite and courteous.
Joy Parker's gaze shifted slightly as she glanced at Samuel Johnson, who nodded at her. Joy Parker cheerfully took out an invitation from her bag.
"I felt an instant connection with Miss Smith, and I truly hope you'll come and visit me often. I don't really have any friends here, and you're the only person my age I know."
As she spoke, she slipped the invitation into Amanda Smith's palm with a giggling smile, "In a few days, Samuel's going to have a banquet at the hotel, and if you're not busy, Amanda, you should come. There will be lots of delicious food."
The first sentence addressed her as "Miss Smith," but by the next, she had switched to "Amanda."
