Amanda Smith's heart momentarily clenched with the word "resentment," not knowing why.
The feeling was subtle, yet it changed her complexion.
The platinum ring on her ring finger felt out of place too, as if it were suddenly too tight.
"What's wrong?"
Samuel Johnson noticed her change in mood and asked softly.
"Nothing," she looked up and smiled, "Sorry, I don't have any gift to give you. Let's go to the counter and buy one after dinner."
Samuel Johnson was about to say, there's no need, you are the best gift, but when he heard her next words, he nodded eagerly, "Sure, sure."
He used to be indifferent to any gift, but now, just the thought of receiving a gift from this person made him want to seize it immediately and show it off to the world.
During the meal, Samuel Johnson was in a daze, feeling perhaps he was too attentive to Amanda Smith, yet also thinking if she didn't mind, he could afford to be even more so.
