He withdrew his gaze and took the paper from Amanda Smith's hand, neatly folded it, then handed it over to the bodyguard behind him, and nodded to Doctor Seam, "Thank you, Mr. Woods."

Doctor Seam stroked his beard and nodded, then cast another glance at Amanda, who seemed out of sorts. He didn't know what had transpired between them, but the rift between the two was clear for any discerning eye to see. Amanda's rejection of Samuel Johnson and his considerate behavior towards her could superficially seem like Amanda's ungratefulness, but upon closer inspection, it was evident that the one in control between them was Samuel Johnson.
Doctor Seam's clouded eyes lingered on the two youngsters for a moment before he finally heaved a sigh and said to Amanda, "Little Amanda, you must be happy."
Amanda looked up at him, smiled faintly, and nodded.
