Amanda Smith watched his retreating figure in a daze, the man's silhouette faltering slightly, as if he couldn't wait to leave.
She lowered her head to look at the chocolate he had hastily shoved into her palm, still warm with the man's body heat. She silently gazed at it for a while, then removed the wrapper and stuffed the dark, rich candy into her mouth.
As the bittersweet taste spread across her tongue, she slowly exhaled and leaned back in the chair, too weary to keep her eyes open.
The chocolate slowly melted in her mouth, carrying a somewhat intoxicating scent. She swallowed the bitter yet sweet flavor, and gradually fell asleep amidst the exhaustion.
Samuel Johnson descended the stairs with an ugly expression on his face, then walked to a corner and slowly exhaled, the pain that felt like it was about to explode in his chest finally subsiding. However, his pale expression revealed the extent of the pain he had just suffered.
