Samuel Johnson quickly realized what she was talking about. He was about to refute, but he heard Amanda Smith say, "If my child was still here, he would be four years old too."
A colder sensation invaded from his limbs and assaulted him. Samuel opened his mouth slightly, as he remembered the words he had seen on those documents: mother and child both deceased.
He had originally thought that if Amanda was still alive, then that child must be safe too. But at this moment, he realized that truly, the child was... gone.
For that child, he had not felt any real emotions, so he had not even thought that Amanda returning without a child was strange. Only now, hearing Amanda mention it, did he realize that there had indeed been a child between them...
