"Xiaomai, you have indeed changed a great deal!" Zhuang Jia exclaimed joyfully at Qiao Xiaomai, "I didn't believe it when others told me. Oh my, I can hardly recognize you now!"
Hua Xiaofeng snorted, then spoke, "Since you've cozied up to the wealthy, naturally you've changed a great deal. So much time has passed, and you haven't even visited home. Do you not plan to acknowledge me as your grandmother anymore?"
Qiao Xiaomai looked at her inquisitive and doubtful gaze. She smiled, and said, "Uncle, grandmother, let's go in first."
"Oh oh, okay." Zhuang Jia tied the donkey to a poplar tree at the entrance, took two parcels of pastries from the donkey cart and followed Qiao Xiaomai into the house.
The Qiao household had not changed much. As Hua Xiaofeng walked in, her gaze swept over the vegetable garden, the chicken coop and the storage shed. She snorted again, "Didn't you say you've met a benefactor? Why does everything still look the same?"
