Amelia Clarke remembered that the man named Hoey was the one Owen Moreland had sent to take her when she worked as an hourly worker at his villa for the first time.
"Miss Clarke, Mr. Moreland asked me to take you back," he said.
Amelia was momentarily stunned, then a smile spread across her face, "Thank you, Mr. Hoey."
Hoey replied with respectful courtesy, "There's no need for formalities, Miss Clarke; you can just call me Hoey."
The car soon merged into the flow of traffic.
Amelia sat in the back with Mia Moreland resting on her lap, while Viola Harris took the front seat.
Hoey drove quietly towards the Morelands' old mansion.
"Mr. Hoey," Amelia asked casually, with a faint tone to her voice, "if Mr. Moreland had you take us, what is he going to do?"
Hoey told the truth without pretense, "Mr. Moreland left in Chief Secretary Mitchell's car."
