Chapter 1 - In the Black of Night

12 years after the birth of the storm

The rain was loud, drops berating the ground and soaking everything they could. The clouds above roared with thunder as everyone stayed inside for the most part, only leaving for their car if they really needed to. Because of this there were few cars on the road and they were far between, but that didn't matter to me, all that mattered is how long I could stay warm in the cold alleyway I called home. My frail body shivered in the dead of night, what little clothes I had were drenched by the rain. My hair had been soaked when I initially ran into the alley when the storm suddenly arrived out of nowhere. I looked around, but not for anything in particular , it was more so to see what stores were nearby that I could steal from as I had just moved to a new alley since I was caught stealing nearby the previous one. Thankfully they never found me, but they do know what I look like so I have to be very careful. Me eyes landed on a bakery...and I was so hungry. I needed food, it had been several days since my last "meal" ...if you could even call it that, though it was more like a glorified snack.

In the black of night, while the storm was still strong, I decided I would raid the bakery for food. Sprinting across the street once no cars were inside, I peered in through the glass to see what was easily accessible. I noticed several fresh loafs of bread sitting on a countertop, and I knew I must have them. I began to walk around the building looking for a way inside, and I found one. There was a window in the back what was cracked open slightly, likely left open on accident during closing. Unfortunately it was currently too high up for me to reach, so I had to come up with a plan to get inside. I found a few empty wooden crates to stack up which fortunately made me tall enough to reach the window and open it enough for my slim frame to fit inside. Once inside I dried myself off as much as I could, and made my way in the dark to the front of the building to where the loads I saw earlier were located. Since I was on the inside making my way out, the locks didn't do anything at all since they all locked from the inside, so making my way there was rather easy.

They were weren't warm but that was to be expected since it had been several hours since the bakery closed for the day. I hastley wofled down a loaf, and then a second, and a third, until they were all gone. Reveling in the satisfaction of finally having a full stomach after so long, I sat there all alone in the dark building, until I eventually passed out. When I awoke the storm was still strong but had let up enough to make it back to the alley without getting too wet. After waiting for an opportunity where no cars were on the road, I made a break for it but for some reason I felt...faster. It was strange, my legs were burning but nothing seemed out of the ordinary so I chalked it up to adrenaline. When I made it back to the alley I huddled up in my makeshift hut and curled into up into a ball. I slowly began to drift off until I eventually feel into a deep sleep.

It was 02:43, 12 years ago. It was my first night out in the alley and it was still storming hard. Every bone in my body was shivering and when I opened my eyes all I could see was the pitch black on the alleyway I was hiding in. My breaths were laboured as my chest hurt from the blow earlier. I cried, I could out for my mother, for my father...but they never came. Nobody came.

The storm had let up and the sun was bright when I finally awoke the next morning. I peered out into the street to see a police car and an eccentrically dressed man outside the bakery. The officer seemed to be speaking with the owner about the robbery but looked confused that it was only bread that was stolen. The strange man however looked eager to find out who had done it regardless of the strange nature. I made sure not to make a sound so they wouldn't looked my way, however that provided useless when the man's face seemed to look surprised suddenly and looked directly at me, unnoticed by the two other men. In that instance, he suddenly wore a disgusted expression and shook his head before looking back at the men. I could do nothing by start to tear as the one human interaction, if you could call it that, in years was one of disain.

I managed to hear what the name of this strange person was...Ronas. They called him a "pro hero" or something like that, they said his quirk was something called "Sat el light dish" ? I thought it was a strange name to have your quirk named after a strange type of plate but I didn't care. Eventually, when I grew, I fould find them and hopefully do what I did on that night...kill him.
