Chapter 1 - prologue

The darkness made it hard to see while running. No amount of tiredness would stop me from getting away as fast as possible. I knew I had to get away from the throng of monsters giving chase. if i fail I'm dead. Weaving through large patches of trees I try not to trip or fall over the thick roots and slippery wet ground. The smell of the forest and the stench of the monsters mingled with blood filled my nostrils, but I didn't stop. I couldn't stop. As I ran, I started to see the moonlight spill out from an opening in the tree line. Speeding up hoping to get away it opened up to a large open space. My heart drops as I see a large cliff. I either jump and risk it or die by being ate. I stop, looking down praying the other side has something, anything to grab onto on the other side. Scanning quickly I spotted a small root and with no more time to search I leap off praying to it. The fall making my stomach leap into my throat I grasp the root. My whole body slams with a sickening thud against the cold hard rock wall as I cling the only thing keeping me alive. Monsters start to leap off pouring down into the abyss below with sicken thuds one by one each hoping to get their greedy maws on me as I hold tight the root. I scan the wall looking for any rocks jutting out to use to climb the rock face. I spot a small one just above a few feet. Damn, it's just out of reach, I exclaim. Looking down to scan around below to see if there is any rock sticking out to assist me in reaching the one above. spotting one jutting next to my ankle. Testing it with a little weight. I applied pressure to It. Seems like it could hold me. Putting my foot firmly on the rock. I hoist my self up and just barely grasp the rock above. Climbing took awhile but I managed to pull myself up the other side and land on the ground with a small sigh. A hollow victory to say the least. Getting up. I pat myself down to remove and dirt and assess if there are any injuries. Thankfully only a skinned knee and some scraps on my hands from the root and rocks. I scan the area and start moving knowing if I stay here I'd be lunch for another beast.
