"Yusuke!"
"Yusuke!"
I heard a voice calling out from the depths of my unconsciousness. Slowly, I fluttered my eyes open, greeted by the familiar sight of my bedroom ceiling. And there she was, Hana, sitting by my side.
"That same nightmare again?" she asked, concern etched in her voice.
I shielded my eyes from the rays of sunlight with my wrist, not ready to face the day just yet.
"Yeah," I replied
Still trying to sort through the jumble of emotions within me, as a heavy silence settled in the room.
"When you're ready, come downstairs. Breakfast is waiting on the table," she broke the stillness before making her way out.
Hana's family adopted me after that day...
Where now living in the city. The city where Yumi and I should've enjoyed ourselves...
Fifteen long years had passed since that dreadful incident. Our once-thriving village had been reduced to mere memories. The place I called home now lay buried deep in the back of my mind.
I could still vividly recall how my mother, Yumi, fearlessly threw herself at the creature, pushing me out of harm's way. She managed to slay it, but more of its kind swarmed in, overwhelming her.
Seeing the horde, she commanded me to flee to Hana's backyard, to seek for help. I ran, fueled by adrenaline, legs pumping as fast as they could. It was then that I witnessed my mother's true strength as she fights them one at a time, it is the moment painted forever in my memory—the moment I last saw her.
Reaching Hana's backyard, I found them under attack as well. The horror had spread, leaving no place untouched.
Since that fateful day, our village lay in ruins, resembling a war-torn battlefield. Injured bodies scattered along the roads, despair hanging heavy in the air. The echoes of children's cries mingled with the flashing lights of ambulances, painting a grim picture. This was an encounter once happened in Rosehill, the village that molded me.
From that day, my heart burned with an unexplainable desire for revenge. I dedicated myself to endless research and grueling training, destroying my body each day, pouring every ounce of my being into becoming an assassin. It was the only way to bring justice to those vile, abusive vampires.
Through years of tireless investigation, I uncovered a chilling truth: vampires coexisted with us humans, Living behind of legal protection, not bothered with any human laws. But why? Why did the law turn a blind eye to their atrocities? Because what chance does an ordinary person stand against creatures that can sprint faster than a speeding bus or possess the strength to lift a whale with ease? What use is a gun against a power that can demolish a car or leap higher than a five-story building? It's like a rat attempting to take on a lion single-handedly — utterly impossible.
That's where assassins come into play. We are the trained warriors, the chosen few who dare to face these supernatural beings head-on. Our mission is to restore justice to humanity, to liberate them from the clutches of these malevolent vampires.
I, Yusuke Akuma, hold the esteemed rank of third in the assassin hierarchy.
I have already taken down twenty-five vampires, but it's not enough.
It will never be enough!
They snatched her away from me- my mother! Now, I will strip them of everything they hold dear!
It's a battle that will either mark my grave..! or bring their kind to extinction!
"Yusuke!!" A thunderous voice reverberated through my room, and the door burst open.
"How long are you planning to lay there, you lazy little dude!" A grumpy voice pierced my eardrums.
Even with my eyes closed I can tell it's Keiko, our housemate for nearly 5 years. She always knows how to make an entrance.
"Hey! Can you hear me? Your food is getting colder and colder!" she exclaimed, her footsteps growing louder.
"And your head is getting hotter and hotter," I muttered under my breath.
"What did you say?!" Keiko snapped back.
I'm pretty sure she's not completely angry—just her usual self.
Hana and I haven't told her why we moved to the city.
Unaware of my status in the hierarchy, Hana is here for her father's business. As for me? Well, we all know why I'm here for.
"Alright, just let me enjoy a peaceful morning," I replied, rolling over onto my side.
"What morning are you talking about? It's already 1 in the afternoon," Hana chimed in, peeking through the doorframe.
"What? Did I fall asleep?" I turned my head to the right where my clock hung.
"You clearly did, dummy. Now get up and eat. You need to drive Hana to her meeting this afternoon. If I had a license, I'd gladly do it for her," Keiko grumbled, facing the mirror on the desk.
"Geez, you're stressing me out. It's bad for my skin," She complained.
I can't stand this woman's attitude...
I trudged downstairs and dove straight into my meal.
After that, for the past two hours we prepared for the trip.
It's already 3:30 pm, and we're en route to Hana's meeting spot.
"Why did you have to come along?" I questioned, glancing at the driver's mirror.
"Me? Well, of course I can't trust a boy to drive a girl alone. Plus, I'll be doing some shopping today, so I'm killing two birds with one stone!" Keiko declared, her words reaching my ears as Hana let out a soft chuckle beside me.
Killing two birds with one stone, huh? What if I actually hit you with a stone?
I mused inwardly, stifling a mischievous grin.
